I dont think money is appropriate. If i were having a housewarming party- I would LOVE a gift card to somewher elike Target, Bad,Bath, Beyond, Pier One or something like that

i would do a gift certificate... we are about to close on our first house and want to eventually have a house warming party, i wouldnt expect gifts and i would feel really bad if someone gave me money... however if it was money from a family member like grandma, i would gladly accept it!

I would do a gift rather than $, gift certificate, a great cookbook, wine glasses, etc...

Not sure what's appropriate -- ususally it's a gift, but I don't see why you can't get a gift certificate if you're uncomfortable with just money. Any home goods place would work, or even their favorite restaurant . . .

I would buy something even though every one loves money...

I agree 100%...then they can get something they want and need for the house..and it won't be as impersonal as money! I actually just got my friend a home depot gift certificate and her husband was thrilled!!!

We are registered at Home Depot! The best housewarming gifts we got were gift certificates - especially to Home Depot.
