i was watching a few minutes of Oprah yesterday who had housewives as guests...
AND i have to say i am SHOCKED how whiney these women are
ANd this is just my opinion of course....But i think that housewives should be able to clean the house, cook and take care of their children without WHINING AND WHINING....
It really bothered me that one woman said that she watched tv when they were intimate...letting her DH 'take care of his business'
I HAD to turn it off

Re: Housewives
I saw the show yesterday and I think being a housewife is a hard job. Especially when you have a spouse who doesn't help out.
I'm 8 months pg now and have been unemployed for the last 3 months and I'll tell you it's not fun being home. I would much rather go to work daily than stay at home. At least when we are both working the house work is more equally divided. But with me being home the expectation is that I do all the housework. There are days when I don't feel like cleaning, doing laundry or cooking. And during those times DH does pick up the slack. My baby isn't even here yet and I'm exhausted sometimes. I cringe at the thought of having more than one child to take care of. So I can somewhat relate and understand how hard it is on housewives.
Now I think the bigger issue from the show is how much these women focused on their children and ignored their relationship with their husband. Of course it's necessary to take care and nurture your children, but you can't forget about your spouse. If you wait by the time the kids are out of the house, then it's too late to get back the years of neglect.

i feel bad saying this it is JMHO...but i think that it SHOULD be expected that someone who has no job should take care of the household chores.... I do agree that raising children is a FULL TIME JOB ...BUT maybe it is just me, maybe it is because i am NOT in that situation but i think it really should be expected...
My best friend does it with 2 kids...my mom and various other people do it..without complaint...
Maybe i am still thinking in the dark ages

Mark your calendars ladies...(or at least one in particular... )...but I have to disagree with you Jenn... *gasp*
I don't think it should be EXPECTED, but granted, someone who is home should be able to do the chores...(um...because they're HOME)... that doesn't mean the husband bears no contribution to the chores..it just means that there is no excuse for the chores NOT to be done....I know what you mean about the being home and the chores getting done...maybe it's just the word 'EXPECTED' that I have a problem with.. if my DH left for work and told me: 'I EXPECT all the chores to be done when I get home' I'd probably laugh in his face and then go shopping just to spite him!!!

I agree that the one who is home- male or female should do the bulk of the housework. But being that she's pregnant, I think she should be allowed some slack. Being pregnant looks pretty hard. Is it possible to get a cleaning lady twice a month to do the really hard stuff?

Re: Housewives
If I was home full-time, and healthy (and not caring for a baby) I don't see a problem with the woman dealing with most of the housework. And I would not expect the working spouse to take adavantage and expect to be cleaned up after.
DH has a good schedule- he normally is home two days a week (he teaches college) and has long breaks (Dec/Jan, though he will be teaching summer sessions this summer). He does more housework than I do and he does the more pain-in-the-*** chores (mainly taking out the trash and going to the laundromat. We live in a fourth floor walkup so these things are not as easy as they sound.)
Seriously, I would happily do 95% of the housework if I was home. The more difficult, physical things would be up to DH (yardwork, cutting the grass, repairing stuff.)

Re: Housewives
My mom did it all effortlessly, while raising my brother and me, and working from home. Now I think she is Wonder Woman and can't imagine how she had the energy to do it all! I understand when the kids are older, but with 2 babies trying to do all the cleaning in the short periods they are napping must be hard. It's not like growing up that we sat at home all day anyway--before we were in school my mom planned daily fieldtrips, to the library or the park to feed the ducks, etc. We never sat around and watched TV.

Re: Housewives
you know what...I hate to admit it...my sister is one of those wives...granted she has 3 boys...ages 8, 6, 2...and while I can totally understand she has her hands full with them, and has a busy schedule, her house is ALWAYS a mess!!! ALWAYS!! and she always uses the boys as an excuse...'oh, i'm a 24-7 mom..I don't have time to clean!!! I always tell her, where there's a will there's a way...her DH works full time..he's an ER resident...and works ALOT of hours....he tries to help out, but in her case I think she uses the fact that she's a SAHM as a crutch to NOT do the housework, instead of vice-versa...make sense?

Re: Housewives
That's funny you mention this...I was off both Monday and Tuesday and told dh that if I were a housewife, I would be more than happy to take care of all of the house chores, shopping, cooking etc. I don't mind doing that stuff when there is nothing else on my plate..besides, what else are you really going to do with your time.
If I were pregnant, going to school full time, etc..that's a totally different story..

Re: Housewives
From what I have seen of my siblings and friends with young children, it is VERY difficult to get things done around the house when you have kids at home who are not yet in school. When you clean, they make another mess, not all kids have a regular schedule, or even nap for long periods of time during the day. And then there is always the choice of 'would I rather sit and play with them, or clean?'
I didn't see the show, but I know that being a SAHM is much more difficult than people think.

Re: Housewives
Well coming from one, I have to say yeah, you should be responsible for all the housework and taking care of the baby, but you are not a slave and should given some slack at times. I'm not going to lie, I try to do light cleaning everyday like sweeping, cleaning dishes but I don't clean everyday. I have to worry about Alia, trust me just taking care of her is hard because she demands a lot of my attention and she is at a stage where she is more active and it's touching everything, so I really have to keep an eye on her. I'm also taking a course online, so that's also hard. My dh is great, he helps me a lot too so I can't complain. Yeah I'm housewife and a mother because I chose to be one, but that doesn't mean that I have to forget about me as a woman. i need to have my times and it's very hard to do sometimes, but I have to so that I can still have some sanity. I hope it's clear what I'm trying to say.

Re: Housewives
I think the problem with these women was that they were totally ignoring their husbands thinking that the children are their only concern. I don't see how they think they will have any relationship after the kids grow up and leave. It is VERY hard managing everything. I have 2 kids, a husband, dog, house and a full time job. I try to keep my house clean but usually behind me there is a mess going on-lol! A VERY messy house is just an excuse for laziness, I'm sorry. My mom was a SAHM and her house was always immaculate. I know many SAHM's who are just plain lazy and blame it on the kids. Staying home is not easy and I run around more at home than at work. I go to work to relax some days-lol! My dh does help. He does not do anywhere as much as I do, but he helps with the kids. We continue to have a good relationship and I really enjoy going out with him alone sometimes. Kids strengthen your bond, if you allow it.

Re: Housewives
Those wives were PATHETIC. They are exactly why I always said I did not want kids.
My goodness gracious. Does your brain fall out once the kids come. I could not imagine getting to the point where its all about my kids and forget myself and my husband.
I notice most of the women were fat. Not to judge, but I think that said a lot.
The women that were saying they balance and don't give ALL to their kids looked skinny and healthy and maintained.

Re: Housewives
I saw only the first half hour of the show and being a SAHM it really intrigued me.
I don't ever complain about cleaning, shopping, writing out all the bills, taking care of the baby and the dog and all the other stuff but honestly it gets tiring. My daughter is VERY high maintenence and requires more attention than most - its just the way she is. The only time I really get stuff done is when she is napping and she only does that for maybe an hour a day.
Most nights by the time she is in bed which is 8:00 hubby is on the couch relaxing b/c he has a hard, physical job while I am still running around cleaning and doing laundry. Being a SAHM is a 7 day, 24 hour job. I don't get a break or a day off.
I will admit that it is very hard to balance the baby, the dog and my husband and sometimes yes, he does get lost in the mix sometimes. But you know what - I get lost in the mix too. I miss going to the gym and having 'me' time. I'm sure it will come in time when she is older and I'm more experienced.
I am not superwoman - I have my faults and I have weaknesses - I'm not perfect. I try to do the best I can and give everyone the love and attention they need.
For me, when I sense that things are getting bad I ask my parents to take the baby for a few hours or even overnight just so we can go out and be with eachother without the baby crying or the dog howling for our attention.
Yes, a lot of these women came across whiny and could use a little prioritizing but I guess I can understand where they are coming from - JMO.
