How About THIS for Malpractice

How About THIS for Malpractice

So 2 weeks ago, my aunt calls up and tells my mother that 6 MONTHS AGO my uncle had bloodwork done by his cardiologist AND the cardiologist forgot to send the results to his general practitioner after reviewing that his PSA levels (cancer) where high. Can you freaking believe this!!!??

How can a Dr. see that on a lab result report and forget to at least stick a Post-It on the patient's file??????

So the other day my father talks to my uncle (his brother) and it turns out that yes he does have 2 cancerous spots on his prostate and 4 other spots that might be cancerous. So now he is going for other tests including a bone scan.

6 MONTHS IS TOO LONG!!!!

I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW CARELESS!!!

PLEASE PRAY FOR MY UNCLE THAT HIS CANCER DID NOT METASTISIZE TO OTHER PARTS OF HIS BODY. HE'S ONLY IN HIS 60'S

When I found this out I was SO ANGRY! People get fired for a lot less from their jobs. I hope my aunt took this to the Board.

I am so so so sorry that this happened. I will keep your uncle in my thoughts, and I definitely think that your family should keep careful records of everything that's happened. Even if your uncle isn't so concerned about a lawsuit right now, it's important to bring awareness to this kind of stuff to keep it from happening again.

ITA! especially when it has to do with cancer!!!! that dr should not have only sent the results asap to the other dr but he should have personally called him!!! unbelievable he didn't do any of these!

I'm sorry your family has to go through this. One of BMs had the same situation happen to her 7 years ago. Her GYN and neurologist did not talk, and she had a drug interaction....she had a stroke at the age of 21!!!

For these reasons, I always make sure to take copies of labs to my doctor. (I work for a physician, and it is SAD the lack of follow-through that is seen at other doctor's offices. I run a tight ship and NEVER would something like that happen!!)
