How are you saving money or keeping your budget?

I know some of us brides are looking to save a penny here and there....either with DIY, or combo packages etc....

just wanted your feedback on what YOU are doing to stay within your budget?

1) Im planning on making my programs
2) I want to make the bridal clothes (buying shirts, and gluing swarovski crystals on eachone-BM, MOH etc)
3)I want to make my invitations (i hope i can)

to save our money, things we did or didnt have:

made our own invitations and menus
no limos
no program (hindsight, should have, interfaith ceremony was confusing to some people)
had the hall provide cocktail hour music
got our STD's through a vistaprint sale, like 100 magnets for $30
shopped around for things before buying them, checking prices on other places.
Bought stuff from brides on LIW (veil, card box, etc)

Didn't do any upgrades at the hall for the day of
shopped around for vendors before booking with them
no bathroom baskets
no slipper basket

no bridal clothing or day of hoodie
Found good deals on thing our BP would use, Duffel bags, watches, jewelry boxes, etc.
Used jewelry I already owned rather than purchasing new, other than tiara

We didn't have table numbers, programs, or menu's.
We didn't do bathroom baskets or slipper baskets.
I made our invites (designed and put together, but had them professionally printed). I also made our escort cards.
We used the most amazing florist who gave us a great price because she works out of her home (Flowers by Rose Marie Torre - 40+ yrs in the business).
Bargained the cr@p outta everyone and thing possible --- Every vendor got bargained, but the ones we did best with was DJ, flowers, and dress.
We happen to be friends with our photographer (Denisimo), so we had a ridiculous price right there.
Made my own card box.
Made sure to get our cake cutters & toasting flutes and gifts off our registry.

Just keep in mind for all the little things you want to do--- What are people really going to notice? What have you noticed at others weddings? I knew where I could skimp and where the little details made the difference.

I'm on a tight budget, and I am sticking to it by not getting carried away by what other people are having. It is so easy to get roped into having it all. I am shopping around and barganing for everything. If I don't have the money for it, it wont be at my wedding

Pshhh I was on a super budget. Some of the things we did were: cut out limos (everything was close to the RH), did a buffet style dinner instead of a sit down (saved me $10pp), made my own inviations, programs, photo sharing cards and escort cards, I really stuck to my budget with vendors, bought my favors on ebay (saves a lot of $$ from what they cost in the party store). I am sure there were more things I did, I'll post as I remember them!

1. I didn't have a BP or GM, only a MOH and Best Man

2. Booked all our vendors in advance to lock in 2008-2009 rates, and after booking negotiated things to get lowest price possible.

3. Negotiated w/ RH over upgrades/extras. Didn't bother with a VH hour.

4. My mom made my veil and 2nd gown.

5. Bought my main gown from David's Bridal, spent under $800 for it. Seriously, there is NO difference between a dress costing $6K and one worth $500. You only wear it once anyway.

6. My cardbox was a generic white cardbox from Michales which was DYIed (its now for sale in my album if anyone wants it - $ 20)

7. I did my own programs - and ordered my favors in advance online.

8. No bathroom baskets/slippers.

9. Booked honeymoon for a year later since HMs can easily be in the range of $5 - 15K, so almost our entire honeymoon is already paid for thanks to our guests' wedding gifts.
