Re: How are you saving $$ on your wedding?

I have spent countless hours doing research into cutting corners, without compromising anything FH and I want. My biggest savings is having the wedding on Thursday, (which I am still trying to digest! I hate the idea of Thursday) saved $3,500 on the RH. I have also negotiated (and I mean HARDCORE negotiating) with all vendors. I have saved $500 on photography, probably $500 on DJ, $300 on Limo so far.

I'm a bride on a money saving mission! This is kinda like a game now !

We're supposed to be saving?
Shoot, no one told me. I thought the goal was to use the credit card until it self distructed so that I could rack up the bonus miles and get at least half of our honeymoon paid for.

When did the rules change????? How come no one told me??????????????

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DIY as much as I can, and shop around for things like DOJ, veil, etc.

We're also getting married in an off season, and NOT having a lot of flowers at all

*Having a sm wedding on a Fri night in January saved alot...max 85 people

*DIY centerpieces...Not alot of flowers

*No add-ons for the reception

*Borrowing DOJ

*No engagement party

*SM wedding party...Less thank you gifts to buy

*Bought alot of stuff from Oriental Trading in bulk

*Using the direction cards, place cards and table numbers from the RH...They are actually pretty nice
*Negotiating on invitations. I wanted to DIY but I'm not craty and decided against it.

*Using the place I normally get my hair done

*Not having a formal rehersal dinner. Will probably do something at my FMIL house

I am getting deals by being friends with people who know people or being related to people who know people. It sounds like a jerky thing to say but it's true. It was really sweet though of everyone to come forward and offer their help.
I have saved on
photographer
DJ
the hall (due to the economy really)
my dress
my Honeymoon
I also have used ebay for some things

Summer and garage sales are a great way to say. I will be looking for the baskets to hold flowers, bubbles and other things. Much cheaper than going to a craft store and I can always spraypaint them to the color I want and add string

Thought this was a good topic so I thought I'd revive it (bump).

Got my favors and card box at Christmas Tree Shoppe.

ways I'm saving money:

-Veil from Amazon
-Dress from David's Bridal (but my Indian out was very expensive, so I didn't really save money here)
-DIY programs and table numbers
-Silk Rose Petals
-Silk flowers for pew decorations
-Silk bk's/bout. for bridal party.
-Silk floral decoration for church (wreath and garland)
-Favor boxes from the Dollar Tree
-Bought wedding accessories on sale:
Cake server set $5 from Joann's

RB Pillow and FG Basket $24 from Joann's (originally $40)

Toasting Flutes on sale at Macy's (bought two regular Mikasa champagne flutes for $14).

Making our card box (picture frames on sale from Michaels for $20; lazy susan from Ikea for $8; guerilla glue $8) Total cost will be no more than $40.

Using house Florist... the CP's are free and we get a discount on Bo-ks and bouts... not getting Church flowers

Using a DJ that I know personally and getting a better deal

Davids Bridal Wedding Dress, Bridesmaids, MOB, MOG

Mens Warehouse Tuxes

Booked HM through timeshare

Not getting epics, not getting parent albums just basic video and photog packages...

Possibly DIY Invites, not sure yet...

DIY Favors

Re: How are you saving $$ on your wedding?

although i would love love to do all the extras and customizing of things, im not really doing any of that. i figure that i could save a few hundred dollars like this.

in general, these are things that although would be wonderful to have and i know often make your wedding unique, imo, people wont necessarily miss them and i just figure i could save by not having them

eparty
programs
petal cones
cry packs
oot packs (actually if i had a lot of oot i might but i only have a few who know the area basically)
place card holders
ceremony flowers
personalized aisle runner
'we do' letters
cake topper (just having the buttercream flowers on the top)
cake cutting set
no vieniesse hour (although i would love it, its ok)
taking pictures on grounds of chapel rather than a seperate site
guest book
photo montage

i think there are some other things i missed...

also, i am having only 1 photog ( i know there are a million good and valid reaons to have 2 but this is just one way that im saving) i saved around $500 or a little more like this

sunday night wedding

choosing the 5 choice menu instead of the 9 choice ( i still though 5 was great)

no seperate wine and bottled water on tables

invites are someplace i am planning to really save in.

having a standard cardbox instead of a custom made one

on the other hand, i am sure i am paying more for some things than other people, its all where your priorities are and what you are willing to forego. i still think that i am saving though overall even with paying over average for a few things

Re: How are you saving $$ on your wedding?

We are renewing our vows.

I'm thinking about doing our centerpieces using good quality silk flowers. I've done centerpieces before for other family events and they came out gorgeous (I have some pics in my album).

We are having a small reception, about 80 people on a Sunday afternoon.

We are not hiring a photographer or videographer.

I would like to wear a very simple dress.

My husband is not wearing a tux

oh boy i'm looking at this thread that I started and things have changed....

invitations...decided not to diy...however rest of stationary will.
rk bridal...love the selection, but i want to pay a bit extra for the service....i'm a brat i know..
sticking to the ebay idea for the rest of items..slip, hair pin, maybe even veil
sticking to david's bridal for bms....my bms are all over the place...i think this will be easier for them!

i guess where we have saved $ is by negotiating w/our vendors....
