We decided on a percentage that we take out of our checks and opened up a citibank esavings acct. with 5% interest..if you have time and find one with a significantly higher interest, take a bunch and throw it into a cd...the reason we keep it at citi is because we obviously need it for deposits, etc.

Re: How are YOU saving up for your wedding
FH and I take a certain amount from our paychecks every week. I put the money into a Fidelity Mutual Fund (basically a savings account) that has been earning close to 5% interest. We have also cut back on the number of times a week we order food. And we have been renting movies instead of paying for DVD's or going to the movie theater.

it's been soooo hard to save during the holidays. I hope to be able to put much more aside in the new year.

Yeah tell me about it. I can't believe how well i did when it came to not spending on myself. Not even things i want but things I need, everytime i went shopping I kept thinking noooo we have a big installment to pay and pay off the e-party. I was really worrying about getting x-mas gifts. I knew I was getting a bonus but since I've only been at my job for close to 3 months i thought it would be very little but it's a decent amount.
Don't worry after the holidays just put in a little more extra than you did before to make up for the holiday spending.

Re: How are YOU saving up for your wedding
thank goodness i'm not the only one with financial troubles over this wedding stuff. I plan to seriously cut back starting 1/1/07 and to put $ away weekly.
By the way, hope everyone has a happy holiday.

Re: How are YOU saving up for your wedding
all of my paychecks are going to the wedding, and FH paychecks are paying for the bills.....It is very tough to hold any money for the house we need to buy.

Re: How are YOU saving up for your wedding
1. I live at home. Apparently this is controversal according to people I work with. But... I am a student and work a whopping 20 hours a week. First of all I would not be able to afford any kind of rent and I would not have been able to save.
2. FH and I opened up an ING account. We get about 5% interest. I just need to set up automatic savings.
3. I was saving on my own as soon as we got engaged. About $500 a month until I cut back my hours.
4. I've set a budget!! And not just a budget but a range!!! Things come up unexpectedly that you didn't even know you had to pay for.
5. since I have cut back my hours my game plan has changed. Right now I plan on making down payments for this year. I will graduate by the end of the year and start working full time as a nurse while I prepare to take my boards. I figure I will be able to afford to pay off the balances as long as I shop around and stick to a budget!!
The biggest thing I think is that I live at home and so doea FH. People think we are wierd and that we should move in now. I don't agree. As I've said I have one more year left of school and then I'll be making some good money.
The other is the long engagement. There's no rush! At least to us. We knew we were going to be together and if he didn't propose when he did... we would still be together.

Re: How are YOU saving up for your wedding
I got a second job (nothing too crazy) and ALL of that money went into our savings for the wedding (FH already worked a lot of hours due to his job so he could not get a second job). We both also brown bagged our lunch everyday for work. And we just watched our spending. Every time we went to buy something, we would ask ourselves, do we really need that? We also clipped coupons for the supermarket (something I thought I would never see DH do).

Re: How are YOU saving up for your wedding
I set up what was basically a Christmas Club account. Each paycheck a certain amount was automatically transferred from one account to the other. The only problem was getting $$$ from DH's paycheck every two weeks to add to the account. But I stayed on him like a hawk and it all worked out!

Re: How are YOU saving up for your wedding
I am cutting corners and just paying rent/ and all the bills and spending about 15 dollars a week on lunch and not shopping at all. We go out to dinner maybe once a month and I manage to save over 1k per month and I have been working alot of Overtime.

Re: How are YOU saving up for your wedding
Matt and I put in at least $25 each a week in a seperate savings account. He puts in more when he can- I am pressed for $$ since I'm back in graduate school! I think it's a good way to save up a decent amount of money for the big day and all its expenses!

Re: How are YOU saving up for your wedding
Food! and lack of it! haha I realized I spend $50 a week just on lunch, and that doesn't include all the nights I get home too late or tired to feel like cooking and spend another $10 a day on dinner. FH won't cook, so if I don't, it's take out again
I make sure I make my lunches (mostly pb & j or cold cuts) and I have been living on cereal. mmmm.
It all adds up

You sound like me! Nursing student (about 1 yr to go) living with parents... and long engagement! Well, I'm in college away from home but my parent's house is my 'home home!'
Seems like you're doing really well! Good job! Thanks for sharing!

Re: How are YOU saving up for your wedding
Automatically have it deducted from my paycheck into a Credit Union. Also my FH putting as much as he could aside each check toward the wedding fund. Things have been tight and to be honest I can't wait to breathe financially again..it's definitely worth it though

Re: How are YOU saving up for your wedding
we opened a joint savings.
we save whatever we can. and deposit on the last thursday of every month.
any gifts we may have gotten from friends and family go right in there.
this month is going to be tough with the holidays, but we are still trying to put away something.
we are also avoiding our credit cards, so they go down.
ive eliminated all of them from my wallet, except for one in case of emergency.

Re: How are YOU saving up for your wedding
I am still living at home with my parents and saving religiously...I haven't bought myself anything since June...I'm wearing last season's winter clothes and shoes, and have just been sacrificing little luxaries (manis, pedis, monthly haircuts and dye-jobs)
My Christmas present to myself: color, cut, and blow out....$50
