How are you storing your Formal China?

How are you storing your Formal China?

Hello ladies. I'm clueless. My formal china came in a separate box for each place setting. Should I keep these boxes? Do you have your china stacked in a cabinet or are you supposed to do something special with it? Thanks for filling me in!!

Thats a good question, for now, I am just keeping mine in the boxes. I guess I will wait to see what happens when I get a house.

Unless you have a lot of extra room for those boxes, you can buy padded cloth covers for storage. They are soft, so you'd still need to be careful, but you can stack each type of dish in 1 zippered case, then store it away. They also supply separators so the plates don't chip.

I bought mine at Fortunoff's.

The Lillian Vernon catalogue has pretty, soft, zip-up china holders of all shapes and sizes. I think they're really nice.

JC Penny's also has those great storage things for your china, as does Linen's & Things. I have mine in my hutch in my dinning room. You can also get padded storage for your glasses.

We are currently keeping our China in the boxes. We have a house, but no furniture yet:( Do you girls suggest keeping the China in the bags even in the China cabinet once we get it? Will stacking the plates on op of each other create scratches? Just wondering.

I have mine in my hutch in those cloth china bags with a piece of felt between each dish. I like the bags because the keep the dust off everything and keep them a little more protected then if they were just stacked in the hutch.

I don't have a hutch or china cabinet, but I think there will be room in the kitchen for them. I guess I'll throw out the boxes, they take up soooo much space, and in the end aren't that protective -- one of my sets came with a broken plate! Thanks for all the advice, now I've got to find a place that sells those foam/cloth bags near Boston!

my mom is very crafty...she bought felt that matched her plates and cut them out into a right size circle and she puts one in between each plate and stores them in her china cabinet...this is what I will probably do...if I ever unpack the **** things...lol

I am keeping mine in boxes in my mom's basement. I live in NYC and our apartment is not big enough for a formal dining room :(

Oh my God. I have been storing my china for the last 2 months in our kitchen cabinet, one on top fo the other with nothing in between. My DH said to me, do you think they will get damaged and I am like no. But now you girls got me thinking. Can they really get scratched just sitting there stacked? Oh my God. I can't wait now to get home and check on them. You girls have me freaking out!
