OK - we went out to dinner with a group of friends the other night - and in this group is my FH's ex girlfriend's sister... lets call her 'Mrs Dead Beat' (who just got married - in short they are a couple with zero class, and are pretty rude and painfully cheap) My FH's ex - Mrs Dead Beat's sister - is a jealous gossip - who really wouldn't wish my FH well - even though he is the nicest guy in the world (OK I'm a little biased... but he is really nice!)
The Dead Beats - who got married right before we were engaged - never called us to say congrats in the 9 weeks we've been engaged, and they skipped out on the engagement dinner because Mrs Dead Beat wasn't ' feeling well.' (read - they didn't want to pay for dinner!) They never called us to tell us they weren't coming - they communicated through another friend.
Apparently though, Mrs Dead Beat did feel well enough to call around to other people to see how big my ring was (Could you get more tacky???) Now I adore my ring - I picked it out, but never though I would actually get it - but I know Mrs dead beat was fishing for gossip for her sister - the FH's ex. So I wasn't going to give an inch - I wanted to see low she would sink to get a look.
So fast forward to dinner - she sends her DH over to me - he doesn't say a word - he just goes over and picks up my hand to see the ring, which I had strategically placed at my side. (what guy looks at the ring???) So I yank my hand away and say 'nice to hear from you... ' I flashed my ring and turned back to my conversation.
So all through dinner - Mrs Dead Beat has still never said a word to me, not congrats - nothing! Then she leans over the Mr. Dead Beat and whispers something to him. He then proceeds to interrupt my conversation and say 'Mrs Dead Beat would like to see your ring.' So I yell across the table 'why doesn't she ask me then...' So flashed it again, she actually took my hand - inspected it and mumbled its nice or something - I couldn't even hear her. I was fuming at this - it was obvious to me that she was looking at it, to run home and tell the FH's ex what it looked like. I now think that I should have been more cool about it and just given her the stats on the ring and asked her if she wanted the appraisal card or something. I'm pretty confrontational at first and then I think of better stuff to do....I hate that!!!! Just Curious what you all think? Oh - and I have to invite these weirdo's to the wedding because the FH says we have to be the bigger people. My thing is - why would you want people at your wedding who are too jealous and bitter to ever wish you well.

Some people are weird and have no class. Speaking of engagement rings, this past winter I went w/ my mother to get her nails done, well the woman who does my mothers nails has been doing them for a long time, so she says to me let me see your ring I heard about your engaement, so first she looks at it and say Oh my god its so big and ita beautiful, so im like thank you. 10 min later shes like can i see it again, so shes like inspecting it really close then she goes 'I think thereslike a crack in your diamond' and continues on looking more. I pulled my hand away from her and say'I really have no idea what your talking about' I mean I know theres NOcrackin my diamond c'mon. So people are weird and say rude things, they are either jelous or have no class. So I really wouldn't worryabout her or I would have nothing to do w/ her.

The Dead Beats don't sound like friends to me. If you value your relationship with them, then I would try to work things out and invite them to the wedding. But, if they add nothing to your life, and you would not miss their friendship, then I see no reason for inviting them.

I'd stop hanging around them...
She is the sister of an ex...that can't possibly be comfy for your FH...

Do you really care if she runs home to her sister to tell her what the ring looks like? You obviously have a fabulous FH and who the heII cares what these people think!! Let them be cheap, and examine your ring, and mumble and wallow in their own misery... just remember, they will always be miserable and you will always have class.
