How badly did I handel this one: Sorry its long

How badly did I handel this one: Sorry its long

OK - we went out to dinner with a group of friends the other night - and in this group is my FH's ex girlfriend's sister... lets call her 'Mrs Dead Beat' (who just got married - in short they are a couple with zero class, and are pretty rude and painfully cheap) My FH's ex - Mrs Dead Beat's sister - is a jealous gossip - who really wouldn't wish my FH well - even though he is the nicest guy in the world (OK I'm a little biased... but he is really nice!)

The Dead Beats - who got married right before we were engaged - never called us to say congrats in the 9 weeks we've been engaged, and they skipped out on the engagement dinner because Mrs Dead Beat wasn't ' feeling well.' (read - they didn't want to pay for dinner!) They never called us to tell us they weren't coming - they communicated through another friend.

Apparently though, Mrs Dead Beat did feel well enough to call around to other people to see how big my ring was (Could you get more tacky???) Now I adore my ring - I picked it out, but never though I would actually get it - but I know Mrs dead beat was fishing for gossip for her sister - the FH's ex. So I wasn't going to give an inch - I wanted to see low she would sink to get a look.

So fast forward to dinner - she sends her DH over to me - he doesn't say a word - he just goes over and picks up my hand to see the ring, which I had strategically placed at my side. (what guy looks at the ring???) So I yank my hand away and say 'nice to hear from you... ' I flashed my ring and turned back to my conversation.

So all through dinner - Mrs Dead Beat has still never said a word to me, not congrats - nothing! Then she leans over the Mr. Dead Beat and whispers something to him. He then proceeds to interrupt my conversation and say 'Mrs Dead Beat would like to see your ring.' So I yell across the table 'why doesn't she ask me then...' So flashed it again, she actually took my hand - inspected it and mumbled its nice or something - I couldn't even hear her. I was fuming at this - it was obvious to me that she was looking at it, to run home and tell the FH's ex what it looked like. I now think that I should have been more cool about it and just given her the stats on the ring and asked her if she wanted the appraisal card or something. I'm pretty confrontational at first and then I think of better stuff to do....I hate that!!!! Just Curious what you all think?
Oh - and I have to invite these weirdo's to the wedding because the FH says we have to be the bigger people. My thing is - why would you want people at your wedding who are too jealous and bitter to ever wish you well.

What is wrong with people!! I probably would have done the same thing! I dont see why you guys have to invite them to your wedding since you the two of you dont even speak... it is not like she is family. Have you been friends with them for a long time? I would not invite them!

Ick! I sure the heck wouldn't want them at my wedding! Put your foot down! You shouldn't have to invite these two jacka$$es who will do nothing more than 'try' to ruin your happy day!

That does sound tacky!! Why do they have to be invited to the wedding? I don't understand.

Not sure I understand why your FH's ex's sister was invited to your engagement party or would be invited to the wedding ... you say you went out to dinner 'with this group of friends' but this couple doesn't sound like they are your friends ...

If you're not going to be comfortable having her there, you should invite her. You don't want anything ruining your day.

I dont think you handled it badly at all. I would have been much more 'snippy' with them.

I dont understand why they are your friends or why they have to be invited to the wedding at all!!!

And I would have gotten loud with that girl for sure!

Not at all - that couple doesn't sound like they are truly your friends and are only around to 'get the scoop' for the sister. I would have probably handled it the same way. What's the reason for inviting them to the wedding?

I think you handled it well. I am just extremely nasty so I would have been a bit nastier (which is not always good). I think you did well. But not for nothing....I wouldn't invite them to the wedding!

I think you did just fine. I'm sorry that you have to deal with these petty people. I don't see why after that scene your FH still feels obligated to invite them to the wedding. Bigger person or not, they were down right insulting.

I think that you handled the situation fine, but why were they there? I certainly would not invite them to my wedding just to be 'bigger people'. I guess I am not somebody that wants to make myself uncomfortable on one of the biggest days of my life just to make a point. If it is that bad of a situation you should talk to your FH about not inviting them.

Mr. Deadbeat sounds like a real panzy---my FH would never in a million years try to find out info for me---NEVER--hes just not like that! The Deadbeats sound like they def. belong together.....they'll get nowhere in life if thats what they thrive on: Stupid Gossip!

I honestly don't understand this. Why were you out with these people if you don't like them? Why are they invited to anything that has to do with your wedding?

.... the way they are acting there is no need to ever invite or talk to them again... whats the point?
when you flashed her the ring, i probbaly would have said,' do you want me to call (fh's ex) up myself and tell her my ring stats '

Yeah - I ask myself that too... It's like this - my FH is way less vocal then I am, and he just lets stuff roll. I go along with it for his sake (needless to say these are his friends for 12 years) I go out with them occasionally, but really just for the FH - I keeping thinking it will be different and it never is.

FH does really stand up for me when we all go out (I had a HUGE drag out fight with another guy from this very circle of people - and he was with me the whole way) But it got to the point where everyone said I should just let it roll off my back... So I did.

These people aren't singling me out at all... they are just morons to everyone. I'm the only one who doesn't put up with crap.

BTW - thanks so much for your input - it really put stuff in perspective.

I wouldn't waste the 37 cents stamp on their invite.
