How can LIPA deliver the gas, but someone else provides it?

How can LIPA deliver the gas, but someone else provides it?

I just called LIPA and Keyspan to get quotes for the usage in the home we are buying. For LIPA they told me that the owner gets charged for delivery but they don't supply the gas....

How on earth does this work? The said an outside supplier supplies the gas. Who are these people. I have heard of different oil companies but there are differente gas companies too??

I don;t have any other companies names but I too just found out that you can have a different gas campany other than keyspan.

When I got my first bill I called to have some one go over the bill with me...I got a nice woman on the phone - she told me which number to look at if I wanted to get a prices from other companys....but no matter what you still that to pay keyspany - so I guess you would get two bills - too much of a problem in my eyes!!
