How did FH propose?

How did FH propose?

FH proposed to me on our last cruise in August. He is such the practical joker and thinks the stupidest things are hilarious. During our dinner, he started to talk about how he was not ready for marriage. After making me cry, I left the table because I wasn't sure whether or not, I wanted to throw this man overboard or throw our dinner at him...LOL
When I returned from the restroom, our waiter hands me a box, I was shocked. I opened it to find the ring! He tells me he was just kidding and that he would be honored if I would marry him. After crying for minutes, I accepted, he then took me to the observation deck and proposed again, after apologizing for upseting me, and making me think I would have to break up! But it was the happiest moment of my life.

Re: How did FH propose?

that's a really sweet story...

We're couch potatoes.... we love to hang out at home and eat really good food, have a nice cocktail, all while sitting on the couch!

In true form, he proposed to me on Valentines day, while we were drinking a good bottle of wine, and eating baked brie filled with raspberry preserves and french bread.....

very sweet and private moment

Re: How did FH propose?

FH and I first started talking about getting engaged over a year ago but decided to wait because he was being deployed to Iraq with the Marines. When he returned in late October I knew that it would be coming soon. By mid January I was starting to worry. lol
On February 17 of this year we signed our contract on our first place together. He was acting quiet but I thought it was because of the move. Soon after that my father and sister showed up to help us. FH continued to act weird. lol Most of the time he stayed in a different room and would not take his jacket off. After my family left I started to feel sick from using so much bleach and started to look for latex gloves. FH was following me around talking to me and trying to get me not to put the gloves on. lol He stopped me and hugged me in the middle of our living room and started saying the sweetest things. He then got down on one knee and opened up the box. He said 'will you marry me' and I replied 'oohhh.. there's a light' There was a light that popped on when he opened the box (like a refrigerator!). Then I began laughing because I knew that wasn't the appropriate answer. When I finally stopped laughing I said yes and he put on my ring. It was perfect.

Re: How did FH propose?

FH came home one night looking sickly and pale. He asked me if I could take a ride with him to drop off some contracts to a client. I was pretty comfy on the couch, curled up in my favorite sweats, watching reruns of Beverly Hills 90210, so I was kind of reluctant, but I can never say no to him, so I went.

We were driving along the BQE and FH was silent. He gets off at Tillary Street and I start to wonder 'where does this client live?'

FH pulls up in front of the River Cafe and says 'Let's go.' I knew something was up, so I just followed him. We walk to the promenade, the Empire State Building was blue and white. He motioned to a bench and I sat...seconds later he was on his knee asking me to be his wife.

I love that memory.

He was so nervous to ask me and he tried so hard to make it special. We went back to the River Cafe for dinner on Christmas night and we will go back to the promenade on our wedding day to take pictures.

Re: How did FH propose?

We are currently living in Las Vegas and he took me to the only place in Las Vegas that actually has cabins snow, trees, etc. We went up to Mt. Charleston and rented a cabin. We had a jacuzzi tub and he put the ring and the box inside a tupperware container and waited for me to find it. He kept telling me to move and sit in a certain spot, but I still didn't get it. When I finally found, he talked about how much he loved me and how much I have changed his life and made him a better person. Oh yeah, he put a ton of bubble bath in the jacuzzi so it was overflowing everywhere. He had candles and everything. It was so sweet!!!!

Fiance was supposed to be at work..

I was meeting my H.S. friends for our annual holiday dinner at Milk and Sugar in Bayshore.

When the waiters brought us our our cheese fondue.. one waiter behind me placed a silver platter with a diamond ring and a box of tissues in front of me.

I looked up, and the waiter was my FH, dressed as a waiter with apron and all.. all the girls screamed no one knew except one. He got on his knee, I cried, he asked, I said yes, everyone applauded, and I cried some more..

Re: How did FH propose?

This is long -- but this is the post I created when my FI proposed:

Okay, I'll preface this by saying that FH, as much as I love him, is not big on random surprises and things like that... but this is SO CUTE. At least, I think it is!

We commute to work together in the morning (we work in NYC). Every once in a while, when we walk past the Godiva store on our way to work in the morning, I tell him how I want to go in there and get some fresh chocolates - especially chocolate covered caramels... but I never do.

Today was one of those mornings where I said it, but I say it at least once a week (and I'd yet to go). So, I finally decided today was the day and walked over there to get some around noon. It's about 4-5 blocks from my office.

I'm ordering and someone else walks into the store and orders sort of the same thing I am, but I'm picking out more stuff and not at all paying attention.

Then this other person swats me with the papers he's holding. I turn around, and it's FH! He scared the crap out of me! He said he was trying to surprise me by getting me the chocolate covered caramels, but he's apparently not very good at it. Well, I told him I was surprised, just surprised earlier than he was hoping.

Now, mind you, we still BOTH walked out of there with bags of Godiva, so tonight will be delicious!

I thought it was sooooooo sweet that he was going to surprise me. I've been talking about it forever and haven't done it, yet... so he had no reason to think I'd do it. I find it weird that we were there at the exact same time, both trying to surprise each other!

Anyway, we got to have lunch together after that, too, b/c he had time before his meeting! We never get to have lunch together, so it was so nice! We work 2 blocks from each other and have only met for lunch one other time... but we live together and I usually eat at my desk b/c I'm so busy...

Anyway, I thought this was a funny coincidence, but I'm a dork like that - especially funny b/c FH never tries to surprise me at all, so I was flattered that he tried today... and felt bad that I sort of ruined it. I don't think that matters, though. It was a great surprise to see him in the middle of the day!

***********************UPDATE********************

I will preface this by saying that I didn't have an e-ring, yet, so we hadn't told everyone about our engagement...

After we had lunch Friday, FH was a busy bee. He didn't have a meeting - he was on his way home!

I arrived home from work and started to walk up the stairs to our apartment. As I turned the 180 degree angle and looked up the stairs, FH was standing there, dressed in his best suit. The entrance to the living room was behind him. The room was literally filled with candles and roses. It was the most beautiful (and romantic) thing I had ever seen. He took my hand and led me into the living room... and started to tell me the most beautiful things I've ever heard... I was overwhelmed - he had tears in his eyes (something I've never seen before from him).

Then, yes, he got down on one knee and took a box out of his pocked and asked me if I'd be his wife. I was in tears (he was close, too). I told him 'OF COURSE I WILL!!' I just grabbed him and got a big hug and kiss... Then remembered the ring. hehe

He put it on my finger and it's everything I imagined it would be. It's exactly what I wanted. It's amazing, but FH is more amazing, and that's all that matters.

It was, no joke, almost exactly as I had imagined getting engaged. Oh, and then he had bought a really nice bottle of champagne and champagne flutes for us, too! (The boy went to Pier 1!!) We drank the whole bottle of champagne and just sat in the room with all the candles and roses and it was amazing.

A little explanation on why it was so special he did it at home: Friday nights have always been sacred to us. We get in our pajamas and curl up on the couch. We open a bottle of wine and order in. We watch movies or just talk and totally decompress from the week. We both look forward to Fridays all week. It's our together time. Now, this may sound ridiculous, but I wouldn't have had it ANY other way. After the champagne, we changed into our pajamas and ordered from our favorite chinese place!

Then after we ate, we opened the VERY expensive bottle of red wine FH had been saving for years for a special occasion. It did not disappoint. We just sat in the room with all the candles and roses all night long together, just talking and cuddling and me crying!

Last night he took me out for a really, really nice dinner at La Marmite. The food was amazing. We had such a good time. It was the PERFECT weekend with the man of my dreams!!!

I had to dig it up and copy it -- b/c it was too long to type!

Re: How did FH propose?

Oh I LOVE telling mine! haha

We went to the photo gallery in huntington village where we had our first date. First we ate at F.H. Reilly's, and then went to see this exhibit at the gallery called 'Heart'.....

When we got to the gallery, we walked in, and our song was playing! I was so excited I thought it was a coincidence, but then I turned around, and Mike had filled the exhibit with photos of us!! There was also a sign that said 'Valerie will you marry me?' I FLIPPED OUT!! and he got on one knee, and pulled out the most amazing ring and asked me to marry him! I jumped on him and we fell to the floor laughing and kissing, and then they brought champagne into the room and we just danced to our song. It was perfect

Re: How did FH propose?

my FH got me good. for 4.5 yrs, he kept telling me he was never getting married, but i never believed him, which is why i stuck around. we went looking for erings for the first time last june and i was fairly excited, yet not that excited because FH is a student and completely broke. i honestly didn't think he could afford a ring and figured it would still be a few more years. no biggie.

we were heading home to NY for my cousin's wedding last august and made plans to go to the mets game with my parents and brother the night we arrived in NY (i'm a die hard mets fan). we got there just in time to see the game start and i was bubbling with excitement, just because i was a) home in ny and b) at a mets game! sometime in the 2nd inning, FH says, 'I need to go to the bathroom'. Pretty much immediately, I see him walking back towards me and I thought, 'wow that was ridiculously fast', but then i noticed a group of our college friends and some really close family friends behind him. I immediately said 'what the hell is this?!' but still had NO idea what was going on. no one happened to be sitting in the row in front of us, so while i was still staring behind me, in shock of seeing all of my best friends, FH scooted into the row in front of us and was holding the ring out when i turned around. i said a few choice words of shock, cried hysterically and obviously said yes my friends got the whole thing on video too. ultimately, there were 16 of our closest friends and family there. honestly, a night i'll never forget. oh, and it was shawn green's first game as a met, delgado hit a home run and the mets beat the cardinals.

oh yeah, i forgot to mention that FH had actually asked my parents permission back in May and my Mom offered him my grandmother's e-ring to give to me, which made it even more special since we were very close. all of them kept the secret for 3 months and no one slipped!!

Re: How did FH propose?

The day after Christmas I went to visit FH. Usually, he immediately wants to open gifts, but for some reason he was not pushing the issue. Eventually we did. He opened his first and then I opened mine. It was a toaster. I am thinking um ok thanks. I open it up and inside there are packing peanuts. I pull out a magic eight ball with a note attached that says 'In case you need help deciding' and then there is a bracelet box. I unwrap the box and inside there is a puzzle. When I put it together it said 'Will you marry me?'

Christmas morning under the Christmas tree. Some say that is very typical...but I have to say I was completely surprised and it was unexpected. I think that is what made it SO special!

Great stories ladies; I love hearing them.

My FH arranged it with my closest friends. I was told that a friend (who lives in Brooklyn) had to take the train to Long Island when we were going to hang out. I thought nothing of this as we always use the station right by my house.

We all (me, FH, and 2 other friends) went to pick up said friend and as we were getting ready to leave for dinner, FH said 'first something needs to be done' and got down on one knee and opened the ring box.

I didn't connect it until he was proposing that this train station was where we met for the first time nearly 9 years before.

It was all very sweet and sentimental. I'll never forget it!

Re: How did FH propose?

We went to Paris for vacay., we booked it two weeks before we left., very spontaneous trip.
On February 15, after a show at the Moulin Rouge we headed towards the Eiffel Tower. FH was watching the clock , and I kept asking what is so important about the time? He wanted to go up top the tower and it closes at 12. We got there and it was past 12., we walked out along the bridge that is exactly in front of the tower. I wanted to get good pics of the Tower., he encourgaged it., and kept telling me to just shoot away (meanwhile he was setting up the ring)., He takes me to the side of the bride and we are leaning against it hugging each other., He asks me how long we have been together., I told him., he asks how long we will be together., I said 'Forever', and then he said 'Lisa, will you be my wife'. He popped the ring out from between our hug....THEN I STARTED TO BALLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: How did FH propose?

While vacationing in Santa Barbara, CA, FH & I decided to check Chumash Painted Cave. Driving up to the mountain was very scary because it was very foggy but once we get up there...it’s was like heaven. After few pictures taken in Chumash Painted Cave, FH asked me to take another hike to the top of the cave...again it was gorgeous...the view was amazing, the air was clean. FH went down on his knees, not realizing what he was doing, I ignored him...then he said....'Babe will you marry me'. I turn around and say “what?” He repeat it again and I said “yes!! but get off the cliff before you fall”…and the rest are history.

Driving home from work, Eric decided he wanted to take Ocean Pkwy home, which was normal. It was such a beautiful day, he asked me if I wanted to stop at the beach. I told him I just wanted to go home! I didn't want to be in my work clothes any longer than I had too!! He drove to the beach anyway.

As we pull up, he is naming all of our favorite times together. (i.e. - The Ranger Game, Foo Fighters concert, etc

We get out of the car and start walking to the water. I can tell he is nervous because he really won't look me in the eye and keeps looking down at the sand. We get to the water and he said ' I have something to ask you' He did the whole nine - got down on one knee and everything! I He said all the mushy stuff, then reached in his pocket...... once I saw him pull the ring out I knew it was really happening. It was so beautiful! The way it sparkled in the sunlight against the water. I couldn't believe I would get to wear it!!

Re: How did FH propose?

My fiance proposed to me at Nassau Coliseum. My parents were there, and so was his mother. He had been planning it out since July of 2006. He kept a record of everything he was planning. He pulled it off really well, because I had no idea what was going on. He contacted someone from the New York Islanders and he had it worked out were someone was going to come over to where we were sitting and ask me if I wanted to answer a 'trivia question'. I at first put up a fight, (a little shy to be on a scoreboard!!) then I gave in and said OK, I will answer the trivia question. When the first period was almost over, the woman and a camera man came over to us and they brought a few of the Islanders Ice Girls (sort of like hockey cheerleaders) with them, and they asked me what my name is and were my fiance and I were from (which they already knew all this because this was all planned out from the get go). One of the ice girls said my fiance, and my family can help me answer the trivia question. Then they told me to look up at the scoreboard, and my trivia question will appear. I looked up, and the question appeared VERY SLOWLY!!! The scoreboard read: 'Melinda will you marry me? Love, David'. I was so shocked and so happy. I couldn't believe that this was happening and how romantic it was how he proposed. To this day I look back on that day, and, it just puts a smile on my face. It made me realize how much we love each other. Both of our families were very happy about this. The ring was the most amazing ring. I love it so much. He picked out the ring all on his own which makes it even more special. He knew that I would love it and that, that ring was what I would like. It was the most amazing feeling that I got when he asked me to marry him. It was a wonderful feeling. Every girl should get to feel this wonderful feeling of love, happiness, excitement and joy. I am so happy and in love with a great guy. I can't wait to marry him.
