How did he propose ?

How did he propose ?

Just wondering how each special man in your life did it and how surprised were you? My fiancee was the last to know . Hehehehehehe

A very special day for me and now her.
4/10/03

April 10th is also the day I came to the US when I was adopted 28 years ago, so it had a very special iimportance to a sentimental sap like me. The show happened to be on the same day. What more could I ask for ?

We went to see Champions on Ice @ the Nassau Colisuem. Michelle Kwan was skating ( her fav ) . I got center ice 10th row seats on the ice level. You could hear everything. I let her sleep on the way home so I could run upstairs and put on Always by Atlantic Star.

I took the day off and prepped the house with one rose petal on each of the 12 steps leading up to our living room ( we live on the upper level ). The petals formed a line and an arrow in front of her mothers urn. I put scented candles on every 4th step and next to her mother and placed the ring in front of it. It was the longest moment of my life. She just kept saying yes over and over. I took her hand and asked her with my proposal. On a funny note. She was so tired after work and then the Ice show that when I put on the ring, it was on the wrong hand. We both didn't notice until the very next day at work her co-worker was looking at the ring and asked her if it was a chinese tradition to wear it on the other hand. Hehehehehee

I took 2 of my sisters to pick out the ring but I knew right away that was the ring. I had never been so sure of anything in my life before. She kept saying I could get a simulated diamond and no-one would know . But I would and after a while she gave in to me doing it the way it should be.

Feel free to email or FM me about your plans for your wedding or what you had. Any ideas , likes or dislikes would be much appreciated. We are probably going to book Flowerfield on Monday. I love that place. ( Another sure thing that i want to get married there )

Thanks for your time and responses.

We went to Key West and went down to Mallory Square to watch the sunset. He asked some stranger to take our picture and when I turned around he was on one knee, asking the question. It was really amazing!!

We went to the wineries out east like we do every summer and at my favorite one (Pugliese), we went for a walk down to the little lake and he got down on his knee! I was floored! Everyone knew but me! We have pictures from it! It was so romantic and beautiful! Better than I ever imagined it would be!

Re: How did he propose ?

Nothing completely extravagant, but perfect in my mind.........It was the Sunday before Xmas, and I was sitting on the bed wrapping presents, wondering where he was (he was 2 hours late coming home from work.) I didn't bother calling him because I figured they kept him late or he was out shopping for Xmas gifts. So he finally came home and walked in to the bedroom and just as I was about to yell at him for not calling, he kneeled down on one knee and pulled out a box. I just laughed HYSTERICALLY for a long time, and FINALLY gave him an answer. It turned out that he was two hours late because he had been calling my dad to ask permission to marry me, but when he asked the question, my dad hung up on him......or at least JT THOUGHT he hung up, when in actuality, my dad's cell phone cut out, but JT didn't notice, so he was talking to himself the whole time, and it took him a while to work up the nerve to call my dad back, afterall, he thought my dad hung up on him

one evening when it snowed, he took me to my favorite place -- the empire state building. the lights on the deck were shining thru the snow making it pink. it was so pretty. he told my bestfriend to go there so she could take pics of us. it was so awesome with all the tourists cheering, me crying and being able to act silly with my MOH there.

I thought this was really CUTE!!! My fiance kept telling me not to eat dinner, that he really wanted pizza for dinner. HE said he would pick i up. So I was like fine, Wondering why he wanted pizza so bad. We never eat pizza. then he came home, i got the plates out and as I was walking to the pizza I saw this huge thing sticking out of the top of the box. when I opened the pizza top, the pizza had 'MARRY ME!!' in pepporoni written on top. My beautiful ring was sitting in the middle of the pizza on a ring holder that he made me in the local pottery studio we go too. It was perfect, and I was so SURPRISED.. Iam trying to make the picture smaller so I can atach it. Ok this is the best I can do. SOrry the pic is so HORRIBLE!!! anyway.. it gives you the idea..

Re: How did he propose ?

Adam and I met in Binghamton, at college. We met in Dickinson Dining Hall, where a lot of our friends had a nightly dinner. (important back story)

So we were in Binghamton for Labor Day weekend, visiting friends. Saturday morning he called me up and said 'Let's go over to campus for lunch', and I said 'Great, it's welcome back weekend so we'll hit university fest while we're there!'

We get to campus and we're walking through Universityfest to get to the Dining Hall, and I'm running into all these people and stopping to say hello, as he gets more and more anxious. I cannot for the life of me figure out why he's in such a rush to get to the DINING HALL. The food's okay, but it's not that good. But fine, we get there, and I say 'okay, here we are'. I turn around, and he's on his knee. It totally shocked me.

After I said yes, he stood up and hugged me for a moment. Then he said 'Okay, let's go someplace real for lunch.'

My FH flys small planes.

He took us up flying one night and while we were flying by the Golden Gate Bridge he pulled out my ring and asked me to marry him. The fog was just starting to roll over the bridge and it was a stunning view, but when he pulled the box out all I could look at was my perfect ring and my loving fiancee.

It was very romantic and I was completely surprised!!!

Re: How did he propose ?

My fiance and his mother had been scheeming. She told me that a client gave her a gift certificate to Tavern on the Green but they had no time to go so they wanted us to go and have a nice dinner. So, we talked about when we wanted to go and he made a reservation for a Saturday night a few weeks away. On a funny note- the whole week before, I kept saying how overpriced I thought it was and that the food wasn't as terrific as the ambiance is but since we had a gift certificate, it didn't matter. Bad!!!

Anyway, that day, I thought that it could come that night but I really didn't know. When you know it's coming- you think it could be any second! He was giving nothing away- I even asked him what he wanted me to wear to see if he would say that he wanted me to dress up. He typically doesn't have opinions on what I wear but I thought that if it was going to be that night, he'd tell me to wear something specific- but he didn't.

So... after we went to the bar for a drink, they seated us and we ordered wine. We ordered our dinner and then he got up and got down on one knee in the middle of the restaurant and did it. Everyone asks if people were watching and honestly, I don't know because I was covering my face with my hands! I was so shocked and at a loss for words that I didn't move or say anything.

After we had a few minutes to ourselves, he made me call my parents and his parents because they were waiting for us to call- they all knew what was happening. After dinner (which I did not even touch), we went on a horse-and-carriage ride. It was such a perfect NYC night. We live here but we never do things like that so it was perfect!

That's the gist of it...

Re: How did he propose ?

FH kept saying how he wanted cake from his favorite bakery. During the week he kept telling me how he was going to order the cake. On Thursday September 12, 2002 he called me at work and told he had ordered it and I asked him what did you get on it 'hands off' or 'Brians cake' he laughed. On friday September 13th he picked up the cake and told me he would be waiting for me to come home so we can have the cake together. I got home at about 6 and at 6:30 he said go slice up a piece of cake, because we have to go pick up my check and i want to go before it gets late. We are also going out with my aunt for her birthday. So I get up and go to the kitchen and in the fridge is this massive sheet cake. I take it out and while i am trying to cut the strings and tape he gets the video camera. i finally open the box and see 'Will you marry me on the cake'. When he picked up the cake he had put the box with the ring on the cake.

I looked at the cake, then looked at him, looked back at the cake, back at him, and said to him 'I think they gave you the wrong cake' he smiled, then I looked back at the cake and just started screaming my head off. I dont think i even said yes, i just screamed.

Re: How did he propose ?

A little backgroud first...FH and I met on match.com (the internet dating thing). I posted my profile with a picture...he replied, but with no picture. I normally, would even answer his reply without a pic (not because I'm into looks, just because I specifically asked for a picture, and I figured if you couldn't follow a simple direction now, how would a relationship turn out). Anyway...something in his reply made me answer. We emailed back and forth for a few weeks, and then I got this package in the mail with a whole roll of film of which he had gotten his friend to take his picture at this park near his house.

The proposal: We were doing some errands on a Sunday (Sept. 7,2003) and I got a phone call from work that something was wrong. So...I told him I needed to go home and dial in to fix whatever it was. He said we would be home soon. Ok...so we go and finish our errands. Then, we stop at this park and he wants to go for walk around the pond. I was like, I have to get home and deal with work, I don't have time for this. But, he just ignored me and got out of the car and started walking. So...I followed...complaining the whole time that this was silly and I really had to get home. Then...we get to a part of the park that I recognize. I said...is this the park that you came to when you sent me all those pictures? He said yes...took out the ring...and asked me to be his wife. I must have said yes because he took the ring out of the box and put it on my finger. I don't really remember what he said after that, because I was just staring at my finger. Unfortunatelly...I still had to go home and fix the stuff at work. But then I called everyone!!

Re: How did he propose ?

These stories are so sweet....

We had been dating for over 4 years and I kept telling my FI that we need to do something to spice things up, I felt like our relationship although great was becoming too routine. So we had planned on going to Montauk for the day but that morning I had to babysit my 2 year old niece. My FI comes to pick me up around 1 pm and I realize I haven’t eaten a thing. So now as we head out there I am tired from running after a 2 year old, and I am starving (making me not the most pleasant person), AND we are stuck in traffic!!!
After eating things between us got better and we had a wonderful day out east. Then we went to eat and he was being a pill at dinner, just trying to annoy me essentially. But he kept promising me he would be nice to me later!
I didnt suspect anything because he is the type who cant keep a secret and I really thought he would be nervous the day he proposed but that day he was FINE.
So finally after dinner he tells me he wants to go back to the point and do some fishing. Its about sunset as we head back up next to the lighthouse and I was lying on the beach while he fished but he said nothing was biting. So he came over to my blanket and asked me to get up when I did and I turned around he was down on BOTH knees, he asked me to come by him so he could hug me. As we were hugging he was telling me all these sweet things. Then when I pulled away from the hug, he held out the box and asked me to marry him. I didn’t say anything I just wanted to hug him but he stopped me and asked for my answer. Then he put the ring on, which I didn’t even look at, and I just hugged him, I didn’t want to let go!!!! He also brought Champagne with him so we had a toast on the beach before heading back to see our families!

Re: How did he propose ?

This is a long one....

I knew FH was looking at rings and had purchased one, but that he was waiting for it to come in. About 2 weeks before we got engaged, he sent me an email with a picture of a ring, that looks almost exactly like mine, but I didn't know it at the time. The email asked if I liked the ring and if I'd marry him. I sent him an email that yes, I liked the ring, but there was no way in hell he was proposing to me in an email while we were both at work. He kept teasing me and telling me that it would be before my birthday (which was a month and a half away at that time), but he wasn't sure when.

The day he proposed to me, exactly one month before my birthday, he was telling me that he would probably have the ring within 2 weeks, maybe 10 days. I even spoke to my mother that day and she asked if I had any idea when it might be coming, and I told her that she would know before I did, because FH was planning on asking my father's permission (not that it would have made a difference if he said no, but I told him it was the proper thing to do). My mother played stupid, very well I might add, and didn't say anything more about it.

FH and I talked about going out to dinner that night (we always ordered in on Friday nights and hardly ever went out), and he mentioned the possibility of walking on the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights. I had a slight feeling that maybe that night was the night, but didn't want to get my hopes up.

I got home and it was rainy and chilly out, so he decided he would just rather order in and not go out. I was very glad I didn't get my hopes up. We had dinner and each went to our respective computers. I was sitting on the couch with my laptop on my lap, eating a Weight Watchers ice cream sundae (classy!), in my sweatpants, and he told me he sent me a couple of jokes via email. I checked my email and I saw 3 emails from him. I opened the first one and it said, 'Did you like this one?' with another picture of the ring he sent me. I turned to him and said, 'I told you I liked it already.' He said, 'Scroll down,' and I did. At the bottom of the email it said, 'Or do you like this one better,' followed by a proposal. I turned around and he was on one knee with an open ring box in his hands. I started laughing and then crying and then laughing again. I asked him if he was really proposing to me, and he said yes. I finally said yes, and then looked at the ring and said, 'Can I touch it?' Durr! He had picked the ring up that day and just couldn't wait for the 'perfect' moment to do it.

I wasn't entirely thrilled about getting my proposal via email, but anyone who knows us knows that it was just so very much us. The best part was that I had his engagement gift in the apartment for months, in two fairly large boxes in the bedroom, and he kept asking me what was in them and why couldn't I get rid of them. I kept telling him it was stuff that I was going to eventually sell on Ebay. He couldn't believe his gift had been under his nose for months and that I had just left it there out in the open like that.

Re: How did he propose ?

We had gone to my grandmothers' house so he could just LOOK at the ring to see if he like it (it's yellow gold and I was more for the white gold)...he made a decision and grandma said to take it and use it when he was ready. We went to the driving range so he could whack a few golf balls and then we were off to Friendly's to meet some friends. We were running early, so we drove down to the docks in Sayville. He had his right arm behind my seat in the car the entire drive down there and I thought he was just stretching from the golf...(but later he told me he was trying to get the ring out of the box and get it on his pinky.) He puts on John Hiatt's 'Angel Eyes' and gives me the empty box playing it up like it was gone/missing. I freaked and said my grandma was gonna kill me if we lost it. Then he took my hand and he couldn't even complete the phrase 'Shana, will you marry me?' He got to the mar....Then our friends asked us why were sitting at Friendly's with them..we told them it was cuz they are our family too (and it was 11pm by then so we couldn't call anyone). BUT...I like my story on how we MET better than this one....

Shana, you can't just leave us hanging like that! LOL I like the story of our relationship better than the proposal too, BTW.
