I had started looking at rings with him. He was determined I could not pick out my ring. It was only like two weeks of looking. We were planning a trip to San Antonio to meet up with my parents and visit my grandfather (he's met them all before). So we would look when we got back.
So off I go to San Antonio. We got in early and decided to stop at a Watermelon Festival, on the way to San Antonio (we were driving from Houston). After the festival and on the way to San Antonio we pretty much nearly get killed in a close call bad accident. It left my front tire bubbled on the rental. Spent the rest of the afternoon trying to get to a firestone to replace the tire and then finally got to the hotel.
This was the last weekend in June and in Texas.. Im hot, sweaty, tired, frustrated and a little shocked from our close call, I was driving. So there I am totally exhausted, when he says I have something for you, I was going to give it to you later, but all that we've been through I think you need this now.
Ever seen those commercials for those three stone diamond necklaces, the diamonds go straight down from smaller to larger? I told him last Xmas if he bought me one I'd kill him because it was so over done on TV. Well out pops this box.. and I hold my breath, it's too large for a ring box. Inside is the necklace. Immediately my mind is thinking 'oh crap how do I not be rude?' then I notice something's wrong with it. It only had 2 diamonds. Jim laughs and says 'yes I know, you hate those 3 diamond necklaces, so I had them remove the 3rd diamond.' I was so happy.. I had him put it on.. its beautiful.
He showed me on the back of the necklace where you can see the great job they did and cutting off the link to the third diamond. 'See, that's where the 3rd one was..(me staring down on my necklace as he apparently reaches behind him)..I had them take the third diamond off and put it in here' I turn around and THERE's the box!! The main diamond my ring is the one from the necklace. I cried and laughed. hehe.
Later I found out, he had ordered it nearly a 3 weeks ago.. had some issues with the place getting it right and getting it BEFORE we left for San Antonio. We had it sized in San Antonio and waited until I was wearing it (3 days later) to tell my parents. It was great!

I will try to keep this short.
FH and I were in the mall shoppoing when he starts complaining of stomache cramps, which can only mean one thing.... He refuses to use the mall bathroom so that's how he gets me to stop shopping!! It's apparently an EMERGENCY!!
He's speeding home and blowing stop signs, and as we pull up in front of his house, a COP comes out from the corner and pulls behind us, lights flashing and all!!
He takes FH's license & reg. and goes to his car for a few minutes, then comes back asking FH to get out of the car! I hear the cop tell Fh his car was reported stolen!! I know it isn't, he loves his 35th anniversary Mustang and has had it since we've been dating so I'm suspecting a joke is being played on FH!!!!! The cop asks me to get out and is now telling me the same 'stolen car' thing. I tell the cop there's now way it's stolen and that this is crazy and has to be a joke! I ask the cop who put him up to this!! Remember, he's in full uniform. and we're in front of FH's house.
So the cop starts saying he's going to have to take FH into custody, FH then gets on his knee and says he's taking ME into custody (kinda corny, I know) and holds out his hand to me. Totally in shock, I step AWAY FROM HIM and just stand there looking at him! He pulls me over and proposes and says a bunch of mushy stuff I don't remember.
As I'm nodding 'yes' and crying, I hear all this clapping and yelling! I turn around and from out of the house comes HIS family and MINE, they were watching from the window and had VIDEOTAPED THE WHOLE THING!! We had our 'surprise' engagement party that day!!
eta: The cop was an old friend from high school who really is a cop!

We were in Oahu, Hawaii. We had went on a long hike up Diamond Head, and I was so tired and irritated. It was so hot, and I am so not athletic. I mean, I smoke, so I'm not in the best shape. He got mad b/c I wouldn't go all the way up to the top, he was like 'come on please', and I wouldn't b/c I was exhausted. Then we went back to hotel after, and he was being all nice, we were having a drink. Then when we went to room, we were on bed, and he was asking me if I still wanted to marry him and all this stuff, and he just says that sometimes, and I was like yeah. Then he got all excited and was like 'go into the safe!' The ring was in there. And then he proposed to me with it.
I should have gone up those steps to the top of Diamond Head b/c that is where he was planning to propose, and the moment just got ruined b/c I was in a bad mood. But at least I can say I got engaged in Hawaii.

I am huge animal lover and he tied my ring around his cats neck on a bow. When we got to his place he kept saying 'look at morris!' and I said yes, hes so cute with his bow. (I figured he just got groomed). Then FH says 'pick him up!!!' I said 'are you crazy? Im in all black!!!' Then FH picked the cat up and brought him over to me and says 'LOOK AT MORRIS!!!!' Then I saw the ring was was like 'ohhhhhhhh!!!!!'

We were at Dave & Busters, he had just won me a water bottle i went over to play another game and he came over to me with the water bottle empty and told me to take a sip. I said theres nothing in there and took it from him. I heard something shake, looked in it and said why is a ring in it. He then got down on his knee and asked me. I was soo suprised and happy!

So here is mine!
Both of us were talking about getting married for a long while...so I was expecting it to a certain degree...things did throw me off though. My FH told me he wanted us to be all nice and dressed up when he does propose...so everytime we would go out I would dress up nicely... TUrns out...one sat night in march....we were supposed to go to an Italian restaurant and celebrate an accomplishment I had in school...So we get there...and I find out that he didnt make reservations...(mind you, he knew very well that this place is packed saturday nights and reservations are a must) so we got turned away bec they wouldnt be able to seat us that night. He turns around and asks me if I want to go to a diner...(meanwhile I'm thinking WHAT????...a diner?? So it totally threw me off and i figured he wasnt asking that night - I also got ****ed at him for even mentioning a diner). We ended up going to a greek restaurant called S'agapo (in greek it means 'I love you'). While we were eating I knew this wasnt the place bec it was too packed that night. After dinner, we ended up going to a park by the river under the Triboro Bridge (we had gone there after our first date which was about 5 years ago). He asks me to get out of the car...and I am thinking 'are you nuts? it is cold outside'...but that kinda tipped me off. So we went out, sat by the ledge and he says he has a present for me. He gives me this medium sized box which I open up...and find a little precious moments figurine of the little boy on his knee holding a ring box...with a dog next to him...and the dog had the ring on his nose....before i realize it...My FH is on his knee with the real ring in front of him and pops the question!! Even though i knew it was coming...i was still shocked and couldnt give him an answer until I calmed down a bit. He actually had to ask me twice because i was just sitting there shaking my hands up and down - It was simple but very memorable to me.

We had been dating for 7 years and I knew it was coming by the end of the year. I had two requests, it couldn't be on a holiday and it had to be near water.
I got suspicious when he called me at work to go see the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center, b/c I'm always the one bugging him to go. So we went and then he made me walk up 5th Avenue, and we went to FAO Schwartz which was a zoo, because it was 11/30, so it was a madhouse with Christmas shoppers. It was crowded and so hot that I got lightheaded and said I was going to wait outside. There are some fountains outside and he said lets sit there. There was a sign to throw change in which would be donated to the FDNY so he reaches in his pocket and pulls out some change and then a box and that's when he proposed. I was so excited I already had the ring when I realized he hadn't asked yet!!! It also wasn't the water I was thinking of... but I kind of knew, but I was still shaking after it happened. We called everyone and then we for a drink because I was still shaking!!!

We had picked out the ring 10 months earlier and i was starting to wonder if we were ever going to get engaged. Then one Sunday FH asked me if I wanted to go to Wildwood Park for a walk, which we typically do on nice days. I told him that i didn't want to go because i didn't have the right shoes to walk the trails with. He just drove to the park anyway and i followed along. We were walking in the trails that are on the top of the cliffs over looking the LI sound. We were sitting on the cliff in the sand. FH got up and started to act really funny..like he was really nervous. Then he said he had something for me, reached into his bag and pulled out the ring box and asked me to marry him. I started to cry right away and of course said yes.

We met at a party underneath the Brooklyn Bridge (the annual fireman's bbq party) and dated ever since on July 14, 2000. So the day before our anniversary, we went out to the movies and then afterwards my FI wanted to go driving around. Well, we drove over to the Brooklyn Bridge and he wanted to go and take a walk over the bridge.. it was after midnight and I was scared... (and it was our 3 year anniversary). I was like, are you sure??? It's late and it's dark!! He said c'mon... and I kinda had a feeling that this was going to be it. We stopped at the first pillar of the bridge because that is where we met underneath the bridge (he went there earlier in the day to talk to the police that were there because he wanted to propose in the same spot that we met underneath, but the police told him it was closed off because of 9/11 so he wasn't allowed).. so he took me to the next closest place... on top! So that was when he said we needed to talk about our relationship and where it was going... then he got down on one knee, took out the box and popped the question!

I came home one day from work and didnt see my FI at first. When I opened the door to the bedroom I found him dressed in a suit and tie w/ roses and wine and he got down on his knee and proposed. I was so surprised. The next week we celebrated because we had had a trip planned to go away for a week.

Krzysztof and I had been together about a year, when my brother got married in November 2002. It was right before my brother's wedding that I was shopping for my SIL's shower and saw a formal china pattern, Naples Platinum by Royal Doulton and I fell in love with it. I would look at it every time I was in Macy's and constantly asked FH (then boyfriend) what he thought of it. He said it was nice, but being a typical guy, he wasn't jumping up and down about it.
Christmas came and went and no ring, then Valentine's Day, still no ring. Then one random day in April (the 12th) FH invited me over to cook dinner at his house (we had given up eating out as our Lenten sarcrifice this year and we had been cooking every weekend). When I got to FH's house dressed in jeans and a comfy sweater, I found the table set with two place settings of the dishes that I LOVED and there were candles and roses. I immediately got suspicious when I saw the dishes, but tried to keep cool. FH had already prepared dinner, so we sat down to have salad and after the salad, as he was getting the chicken out of the oven, he turned around and was down on one knee beside my chair, asking 'Will You Marry Me?' Comically, my response was 'is it real?' which I said because FH had told me that he had ordered my setting but not my stone and that it had come with a CZ in it. After I got over the shock that it was the real deal, I said yes and then HE MADE ME EAT DINNER BEFORE I COULD CALL ANYONE!!!! He let me call my parents (they knew he was doing this) but I had to sit through dinner before I could call my best friends. When I finally called one of my best friends, she knew already because my mother called her husband's aunt, who called her sister,who called my friend. I called my best friend and instead of saying 'guess what? I got engaged?' She squealed congratulations in my ear!! That night we celebrated with that friend and the friend who introduced us. The next day, FH's parents came to my house to celebrate dinner with us!

it was the day before valentines day, and that was the day i hurt my back at work. we were laying down downstairs and he wents upstairs to get a drink. when he came back down, he said ' i was going to do this tomorrow, but i can't wait. he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him.

That night, Eric and I were painting our office. Eric had asked me to clean some brushes in the kitchen. When I came back, 'our song' (I'll be by Edwin McCain)was playing on the computer. I looked at Eric and he got down on one knee. Still confused, I looked on the wall and he had painted, 'marry me' on the wall. It was the happiest day!

He had a painting painted of a beach scene and will 'will you marry me on it?', had my entire family fly in and some friends hiding in back room, rented out the art gallery which we thought we were going to for my friends work function. The curator was showing us some pics and then took down the cover on the painting and FI got down on one knee....and proposed....the whole thing is on video which is the best part - my sister had hid the video camera on top of a cabinet so you can see my reaction throughout the entire thing...It was the insane!

Even though my proposal was 30 years ago, I remember it as if it was yesterday.
It was his birthday, so he came over and with him he had a small box. He handed me the box and said that he bought me some canoli's. (I love them) when i opened the box, inside was a white coursage. Being confused on the flowers, inside the box was another box, a small box. Inside that small box was a ring box. When I opened the box, inside was a ring, light blue stone, 2 smaller stones on each side. I was so thrilled. Still being confused, I put it on. While checking it out, I could see that the band under the stone was split. I thought, 'well, maybe he doesn't have much money to buy me a real ring and this his his way of telling me, I'll have to wait for a real ring. (BTW, I had no clue it was supposed to be an engagement. ) Then being still being thrilled with my present, he asked 'does it fit?' I said 'No, but i'm sure we can have it made smaller'. with that, he stood up from his chair, put his hand in his pocket, and said, 'try this one on, hopefully this one will fit perfect!'. I screamed, burst into tears. I had no idea of his plans for our future. He was shaking so bad when he put my REAL ring on my finger. I was so happy with the dime store ring, he said that he could of gotten away with the first one LOL...
Here it is 30 years later, and both our children are engaged (our son is july 2004 and our daughter is october 2004) and their engagements were also very different and unique. Son, sent his girl on a picture scavanger hunt with the final picture of him holding the ring. Daughter was proposed to on a beach in the D.R. with hers as a message in a bottle.
