We got engaged on Thanksgiving and we've been keeping it a secret for Christmas. Im about to burst if I dont tell anyone, but Im hanging in there. I've all ready figured out how to announce my engagement to my cousins. As one of their Christmas presents, I found little teddy bears in wedding dresses and with a label maker I made the bears a banner that reads 'Will you be my BM,MOH?' Now Im trying to find an innovative way to tell my parents and the rest of the family. I would love to hear your suggestions. The more creative the better!!!

Re: How did you announce your engagement?
Thats cute, I could NEVER have waited a whole month to tell my family! The night I got engaged I told my parents, I came in to the house and said look with I got and held up my ring! Then I called my brothers to tell them!
Nothing too extravagant but My mom would have killed me had I of kept it a secret!

Re: How did you announce your engagement?
That is such a cute idea!!! I was way too excited and impatient to wait... I called everyone I knew 2 hrs after he proposed!!
How about you give your FMIL something like one of those t-shirts or mugs that say something about greatest mom but have it say FMIL?

Re: How did you announce your engagement?
Let me explain the story a little further and you'll see why I did what I did. We went away together for thanksgiving weekend. With the holiday's around the corner, my BF just didnt have money to buy me an e-ring. He proposed with a big red ring pop (how cute). He said before I answered him it was important for me to know that he tried his hardest to ask my father for my hand, but by the time we left, he wasnt able to. Im an old fashioned type of gal, so that has always been very important to me and he didnt want me to answer him until he talked to my father. The weekend after, he went and asked my father for my hand. We were going to announce it, but my BF felt kind of embarrassed that I didnt have a ring to show anyone. I told him that's not what an engagement was about, but to accommodate him I told him it would be a nice thing if we could announce it for Christmas and after the holidays (or should I say holiday shopping) is over we can go pick the ring together. Did that all make sense?

Re: How did you announce your engagement?
You could wrap a wedding cake candle or something like that for the mothers, I have even seen large engagement rings at places like gadgets and gizmos in the malls.

Also just so you know most of the jewlery stores are having major sales on jewlery now for the holidays, alot of people get engaged around Christmas time so places are fighting for the business. I know Zales, Kay, and Whitman jewlers are all having major sales now.

We are actually going with goodoldgold.com It's has a wonderful selection of quality diamonds. Unfortunately with the mall jewlers most of their diamonds are not certified and if they are - they are very expensive.

Re: How did you announce your engagement?
I didn't have to announce it. My FH wrote my parents a letter and then called them a few nights before he proposed. By that time my mom had called everyone to tell them FH was proposing. So when I called my mom afterwards she already knew. I called each of my BM between Sat night and Sun.

Re: How did you announce your engagement?
We got engaged last christmas morning, when we went to his parents later that morning I ran in with my gloves on, said merry christmas, and then asked his parents if they wanted to see what Santa brought for me. I took off my glove and showed them the ring. FMIL started to cry and then hit FH for not telling anyone.

Re: How did you announce your engagement?
My Dad already knew because FH asked his permission before hand. But we got engaged in the Domincan Republic, so we called our moms that night and paid for 1/2 hour of computer use to send an e-mail to our friends (except those who are really close to us). When we got home, my grandparents and brother were there and I asked if they wanted to see my souvenir and laid my hand on the table, my grandparents cried! The day after we got home I stopped by my best friends's house (MOH) and told her I had just come from getting my nails done and so she said 'let me see' and I held out my hands and she yelled 'I knew it!'. It was so much fun telling people.
I like your idea, but you must be strong willed to be able to hold it in that long.
I THINK THAT IS A GREAT IDEA ABOUT THE TEDDY BEARS! WELL I GUESS FOR ME IT WAS EASY, I DIDN'T HAVE TO TELL ANYONE BECAUSE THEY ALREADY KNEW. MY FI IS IN THE MARINES RESERVE AND HE WAS IN IRAQ FOR 8 MONTHS. WELL HE GOT HIS SISTER (WHO HAD POWER OF ATTORNEY AND HAD ACCESS TO HIS MONEY) AND MY SISTER WHO KNEW EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED AND THEY WENT AND PICKED OUT MY RING AND HAD IT ALL READY FOR HIM WHEN HE CAME HOME SO HE WENT AND SPOKE TO MY PARENTS WHEN HE CAME HOME IN OCTOBER. BOTH SIDES OF THE FAMILY ALREADY KNEW. THEY HAD STARTED PLANNING SINCE AUGUST AND EVERYONE HAD TO KEEP THEIR MOUTHS SHUT UNTIL OCT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry i tried to keep it as short as possible, but i get too excited)

Re: How did you announce your engagement?
That's so cute!!
I waited only 3 days (my ring had to be sized) Then I pulled my Dad aside and said 'hey pop, your future son-in-law has something to say' Before it could sink in Jim told my father 'Yep, I just wanted to say thanks' My Dad started laughing his butt off. My sister and twin brother and step mother took a bit longer to clue in. Dad was like 'Get it? Future Son in Law?'
My sister THEN said 'OOOH can I see the ring' and that was it
so unromantic I know.

Re: How did you announce your engagement?
JT called my father to ask him for his 'permission' (so to speak), and my dad's cell phone dropped the call just as JT asked, so he thought my dad hung up on him, and then it took JT a few hours to call him back(thinking he had hung up on him! Haha), and my dad hadn't heard him, or he heard him and didn't have the number to call him back, I forget exactly, but anyway, my family knew already, HIS family on the other hand had NO idea and his mother was crying and got so mad that he didn't tell her! Then I called everyone I could think of to tell them!

Re: How did you announce your engagement?
I couldn't have waited!!! 10 minutes after he proposed I was on the phone to Florida to tell them. The only reason I waited that long was because I had to stop crying first!!!
But I do love the teddy bear idea. I don't have any suggestions of how to tell your parents. Sorry.

Re: How did you announce your engagement?
divabride, very creative and innovative way! I announced our engagement via e-mail through our wedding web site The Knot.
The only thing I could really come up with was to go somewhere like Target or Sears. We could get the christmas cards with our picture and under the typical 'Merry Christmas' or 'season's greetings' I was thinking of putting Announcing our engagement or something cheesy like that. Then on christmas day when i go to my parents house, his family's house and family I could say 'I forgot to mail these out' and wait for their reaction when they open the cards. I dont know though. That sounds really corny!!

Re: How did you announce your engagement?
Last year my sister had a shirt made that says: I get to be the bride With Sean by my side On 10/10/04 Ask me how many days more.
Maybe something like that- I liked the idea of making a shirt. Or you could just get the Mother of Bride/FOB/MOG/FOG shirts. I think there are business cards too. I saw you set your date already, maybe make up mock invites. You can get paper from Michael's.
The not had this on ornaments,
Parent Ornament
Let your parents know how much they mean to you -- honor them for their part in the most important day of your life with these genuine pewter Parent Ornaments. For Dearest Mother or Dear Dad, each ornament has a unique picture, poem, and card with a space to be signed by the giver. Each ornament measures 1 3/4' diameter, is strung with burgundy ribbon, and can be engraved with up to 3 initials on the back.
The dad ornament proclaims 'Wisdom Love Guidance Strength Courage' and the poem reads: 'Dear Dad, You were there from the beginning, A presence of Love. You dried my tears and gave me hugs, Through all the years I have realized, The gift you are, so stong and wise. My message is one that rings so true, You are loved because you are you.'
The mom ornament says 'A Mother's Love Is Everlasting' and the poem reads: 'Dearest Mother, From a child to a woman, Through each day of my life, You have shown me love and kindness, Which will serve me as a wife. I give you this medallion, It comes to you with love, A very special keepsake, Of my unbounded love.'

Re: How did you announce your engagement?
We waited a week from when we bought the ring, to when it was sized without telling anyone. Then then after we got the ring it was late, so we waited untill the next day & called my parents. We had plans that night, but didn't want to tell our friends before his family, so I didn't where my ring, and we didn't get a chance to tell his parents till that night. We just walked right in & said it. Then we told people as we spoke to them or emailed them.
