how did you choose your BM/theme colors??
i always thought id be going with a fall theme and go with a wine or maroon.. but now that im booked i realized two things.1. im getting married in early september - not quite fall yet.
2. weather permitting, ill be having my ceremony and CH outside by the pools and fountains in a summery setting..
so now im thinking maybe embrace summer a bit more with some navy blue?? but that entirely changes the floral i was going to choose. also the BM dress im looking at has two colors - the main color and an accent color..
if i go with navy and accent white i feel that limits my floral choices as well as makes my BM's look like sailors. however, (hehe a bit bridezilla of me) blue makes me look awesome
ive always loved blue cause i have blue eyes and they get much bluer when im around blue. its always been my fave color cause of that...anyway if i go with maroon, what accent color do i go with? black? is that too dark for a late summer affair?
sorry to draw this post on but please help! color is SO important as it sets such a tone..

Re: how did you choose your BM/theme colors??
navy blue really isn't at all summery to me. It's so dark! It's more of a winter color to me, really...Summer colors to me are bright and juicy - fruity colors, melon colors, that kind of thing.
depending on what the maroon looks like... there are a lot of colors. A pale pink can look pretty with maroon... or even a lighter blue can look nice. Or cream. Or silver. There are a lot of options.

I am a fall bride and my BM colors are Ruby and Grape. The flowers are Black Baccara ( red roses with a hint of black), lavendar roses and charolette red roses.

i also think navy is not that summery unless you go with a light airy material like chiffon, maybe try for a lighter shade of blue, i'm not so good with accent colors

Navy blue is more of a fourth of July or even somewhat in the autumn family b/c of the dark tones-blue is fine, I would just go a little lighter.

Re: how did you choose your BM/theme colors??
Well, I'm the non-traditional one. DH and I knew our wedding colors, and BP, before we were engaged and before we picked a date. Black and red have always been my favorite colors and DH likes them too.We first thought about October, but once we found out April Fools Day was a Saturday, we changed. (We were always the sarcastic jokers) I heard some resistance from my MIL and GMIL about the colors for a Spring wedding, but they changed their tune on the wedding day. And the BMs thanked me for doing black dresses!
The way I've always looked at it...... If the GM are able to get away with black tuxes at anytime of the year, why do the girls have to go by the season? Was I supposed to ask the guys to wear pastel tuxes? Who ever thought up the reasoning?

Re: how did you choose your BM/theme colors??
I always liked the colors pink and green together, espically for the summer. Originally, I wanted the BM's to wear pink dresses and carry green and pink flowers..I ended up choosing a sage color for the girls dresses

I'm getting married a week before the Fall begins and I'm going with claret colored dresses (not quite deep red, but not cherry either, it's in the middle). The flowers are going to be roses in red and ivory.

My colors are blue/soft light blues and ivory. This is the summer so I want something 'light'.Your wedding is still in the summer.

just pick whatever color you like best and flatters the girls and flowers you want. don't worry about the season.

Re: how did you choose your BM/theme colors??
I think if you use a darker color make it 'summery' with flowers. I am getting married in April and my dresses are a dark purpley blue (Raylia- Cornflower) We are using gerber daisies and using more vibrant colors in the bo-ks

I wanted a light color for the summer. My girls are in a cornflower blue.

I agree with this. Do what you like and makes you happy! I love brown and want my BMs to be in brown, even though it's a winter wedding.

Re: how did you choose your BM/theme colors??
I had a really hard time picking my colors. I always wanted dark/deep red...but my sister did that. Then I was set on pink and brown...But the BMs weren't crazy about the pink and FH didn't think brown dresses would look good w/black tuxes. I re-thought and re-thought and finally decided just to do the red, like I always wanted. As I was planning, I stumbled upon a way to incorporate brown (i love brown) and even ivory (in my chair covers and table linens)...then I picked my invitation out and it was brown & ivory. Not to mention, my dress is also ivory.
So I kinda fell into the dark red/brown/ivory theme ... which works really well w/the fall. I havent picked flowers yet but I have some ideas. Its all in my album.
If you do navy blue, I've seen it coupled with pale pink flowers ... i think it looks really nice.
If you do maroon, what about pairing it with ivory? I think that looks classy. Maroon dresses w/white/ivory flowers would look nice...and you could carry a dark mix of reds in your boK.
HTH!!

Re: how did you choose your BM/theme colors??
Honestly, I let them (the BP)choose. As long as the color was dark (winter wedding) and I approved it, they could have chosen anything.

I think of navy blue as a fall color, like emerald green and deep purple. But If you truly want blue, then go for it.

Re: how did you choose your BM/theme colors??
I love navy blue and almost went with it for my July wedding. You can make it very summery by doing lighter flowers (whites, pale greens, pale pinks or lavender). Why not do a tea length dress in the navy. Since you're hoping to have part of the wedding outside, it will be more summery without being a 'summery' color.

Re: how did you choose your BM/theme colors??
I'm also getting married in early September, during the DAY, and I chose navy blue as my bridesmaids dresses. What I was going for was the color that would look the best on all my bridesmaids who are of various heights, shapes and complexions. Blue is a color that looks good on anyone regardless of those things. I chose dark to flatter everyone's figure. I didn't want them to feel uncomfortable or self conscious since lighter colors emphasize everything. I chose light blue, lavendar and white flowers to offset the dark blue.So am I going the traditional route in terms of summer colors? No. Do I care? No.
