I have a siser who I am not really close to and my best friend since Junior High.
My mother wants me to choose my sister. Is this the best decision?

Choose whoever you feel is right - it's your wedding. I have a maid AND a matron of honor - my sister and my best friend

Re: How did you choose your Maid of Honor?
I dont have a sister - i chose my best friend. I think you should choose who you feel will be there the most for you. There is of course the option of having two maids of honor.
My cousin got married a few years ago - she has twin sisters- she couldnt pic between the two of of them - so she ended up choosing me as her maid of honor.

I have two sisters one I am close with and one I am not. I am having both as MOH, and no other bridal party.

Planning your wedding will be the most stressful, fast-paced, happy, confusing, decision-making, emotional, crazy time of your life.....Who Do you want to be your confidante throughout it all (besides of course, your FH)? The answer to this question should be you the person yo pick for your MOH.... JMO!

Re: How did you choose your Maid of Honor?
Thanks for all the advice - and so FAST!
I wish I could build up the guts to tell my mother that I don't want my sister to be it. but she is traditional - she had only my 3 aunts (her sister, sister-in-law and my father's sister) - then her niece and 2 young cousins as flower girls. All in the family.
I just don't know how to break it to her. It took me weeks to tell her I was moving out. i am such a wimp!

I have a sister and a best friend that I've been friends with since I'm 6 - my best friend is my maid of honor. I'm close with my sister but nothing like with my best friend. I wouldn't worry too much about your mom but I would consider my sister's feelings (I knew she would understand). Maybe speak to her and explain the situation and judge her reaction.

I have a sister but she is much younger than me. I am really close to one of my cousins so she was my matron of honor.

Re: How did you choose your Maid of Honor?
My sister is my matron of honor. It was easy for me b/c I would have had a hard time choosing which of my friends to make maid of honor, since i don't have one 'best' friend, rather a few very close ones.
When my sister got married, I was 14. I was her maid of honor, and a friend of hers was matron of honor.. you can always have more than one honor attendant. Do you have any idea how your sister feels about being MOH? Do you think she expects it or will be hurt if she is not?
I think choose whoever YOU want. It is a very special honor IMO. I picked my sister because she is also my best friend.

I am one of three girls. My older sister is in the army and her and I are not as close as I would hope to be. My little sister is only 9 so, I chose my aunt. My mom gave me a hard time too but in the end she understood. Good Luck!

I dont have any sisters - but I do have a close cousin and 2 fsils. I decided to have my oldest friend by my MOH. FH is having his best friend for BM. Besides them we have no other bridal party.

Re: How did you choose your Maid of Honor?
I didn't have a sister...so I chose my closest friend.
Another perspective:My Mom had two sisters and chose her best friend as her MOH and made her two sisters BM's. No feelings were hurt.
Choose who you want, it is your wedding. Or, have two MOH's. I've seen that done.

Re: How did you choose your Maid of Honor?
My sister was originally going to be my Maid of Honor, she and I do not see eye to eye all of the time. When she started to bash my FH, I took her out of the wedding....completely. My best friend since forever will be my Maitron of Honor.
