Ok, how did you ladies finally decide which dress was 'the one'?
Is it true that 'you just know' when you try it on??
If you check out my dress pics in my photo album, I tend to go for the strapless, ballgown, full skirt, detail on the bodice and the bottom, long train..... But, after a while of searching, to me, they all start to look the same.... Help!
I haven't even gone to try them on yet... I can't imagine how frustrating an experience that would be... I would probably go through every dress in every store and still not able to pick one out!
Internet/magazine searching is frustrating enough...
Help/advice... Thanks!

My suggestion is to try on all those strapless full ball gown skirts. They actually do look different from each other on (depending on the waistline etc.) but then also try on the dress you never thought you'd wear. Like the all lace or the sheath or trumpet or a-line styles. That's what happend to me. I was all about the full princess like ball gown and that was all I was trying on until I tried on my slim aline dress. I knew it was the one in the dressing room. I did cry though many brides don't! Good luck in your search!

Re: How did you decide on your dress?
Honestly I thought the whole 'its the one' thing was stupid. I tried on at least 40 dresses and nada. What i wanted was slim chiffon;flowy romantic and etheral. But it looked HORRIBLE on me and puffy ball gowns made me look like a cake-topper on a Quinecnera cake!
So in despair I mumbled to my saleslady what i liked in dresses (lace and no crazy sequins) and she held up a finger and went off. 5 minutes later she came back with THE dress; Modified a-line, strapless (i originally wanted a grecian style gown with one or two straps) and ivory satin with a lace overlay. I looked at her like 'oft this is not the dress,' but i said nothing and tried it on. She didnt let me see it till she put on the veil and when i caught a glimpse, my hands started to tremble. When we went out, everyone in the store stopped to look and mind you, its a huge place. For the first time in a week of dress shopping, i was all smiles, jumping up and down.
LOVED it. Even though I doubt it at times now seeing other dresses, I rememebr that elation I felt and am calm again. I mean another brides mom actually came over to tell me that it was THE dress and she'd been watching from other side where her daughter was trying it on.
So you will know. It was nothing like what i expected and yet I feel amazing and know on my day I will feel like a bride.
My one suggestion is try EVERY style on, even ones you dont think would work and listen to your sales people if they suggest something. It just might end up looking better than your original choice.

Re: How did you decide on your dress?
I agree.....I tried on all the dresses I saw in magazines that I thought I wanted (ballgown, white, poofy, etc.). I tried on those dresses in the store and just did not like them and was not thrilled. We were getting ready to leave a bridal salon and my MOH (sister) brought this dress into the room and told me to try it on. My response to her was 'I am not trying on that hideous looking dress'. Well, she pulled rank as my MOH and OLDER sister and made me try on the dress. She would not let me see it until I was totally in the dress and standing in the middle of the Bridal Salon in front of the mirror....WELL, I fell in love . . . and did not want to take the dress off. I am a firm believer in you will know it when you put it on, just go with an open mind. Here is my dress . . . .
I think that you'll know when you put it on. I have to shop for a dress for the Marine Corp. Ball every year and I would try on a dozen dresses without liking any of them. When the right one comes along though, it's an 'aha' kind of moment.
Even if you like a certain style, always try on others as well because you never know. I wanted a more fitted dress, but I ended up with more of an a-line dress because it was the one I put on and didn't want to take off.
You'll know when you put it on.

Re: How did you decide on your dress?
I know what you mean about them all starting to look the same... my decision wasn't really as clear as the other girls...i was torn between 3 in the end...all extremely similar, but slightly different...i ended up going for the one that was kinda a mix of the other 2 so I figured I got the best of both I hope i still love it when I try it on though hehe

Re: How did you decide on your dress?
I am not one of those people who cry at everything, and I actually would make fun of girls who said they cried when they found their gown! I tried on like 50 and liked many of them, and almost bought one of them. I saw a dress at the Oheka showcase from Bridal Reflections. When I went for my appointment there I asked to see that gown since my mom said she liked it. I put it on and burst into tears! I just knew. So I believe that when you find the one you will know and have no second thoughts. And be open to all styles - it looks soooo different on and on the hanger. Good luck!

Re: How did you decide on your dress?
I hope since today is my first attempt that by saturday of var. appointments I find something like I kinda like or I love this way even though i have time that eventually something will feel right. I guess I am trying on diff. gowns some or sim in the whole A-ine but i know mermaid wont work on me, ballgown is SCARY to me, trumpet is a joke on me so i am left with a-line so that at least helps me out. I will try a ballgown on for s/g and to appease my mom.

Re: How did you decide on your dress?
Just remember that some people never have that 'aha! this is IT' moment, so don't be disappointed if you don't have that.
That being said, I picked out a ton of dresses that I wanted to try on from online pictures etc. When I finally started trying on dresses, I picked out these dresses and there were some that looked horrible with my body type and some looked great, but none really hit me as being the ONE.
There was one that I had been drooling over for over a year and when I finally tried it on, I was very happy and REALLY liked it, but there was just something missing.
The dress that ended up being THE ONE was a dress I picked out from a designer's online site. The first time I went to try on that designer's dresses, I tried on a very similar dress and I felt like I had found THE ONE but I was unhappy with the skirt of the dress (WAYYYYY too full) so I would have had to pay to change the skirt. They couldn't find the other dress that was similar that day so I went to another store and it was the only dress I tried on in that store. I KNEW right away that it was the ONE. I loved everything about it. My BM's and mom loved everything about it. I was still very nervous about buying the dress (because it's such a big purchase and there was basically no turning back once it was bought), but after I took it off and I started staring at it, I started to cry - it was just THE dress. So the decision was made.
Just go to try on dresses and KEEP AN OPEN MIND. Try on the ones you want to try on, but if someone brings you something you think you'll hate, try it on anyway because you never know. That's how my friend found her dress - I picked out one that I loved but she hated... I MADE her try it on and she LOVED it! She looked beautiful on her wedding day!

Re: How did you decide on your dress?
First, in my opinion, dresses look much different in person than they do in magazines and online so be open to try on different styles. I went to my first dress appointment with a book of pictures and the majority of them I didn’t like. By the third attempt at dress shopping, I had a better understanding of what looked good on me. After the fifth store, my mini entourage was getting frustrated (as was I). All the dresses I had tried on up to that point were nice but didn’t make me feel anything. When the woman helping me pulled out THE dress, I was still a little skeptical. But when I put it on and looked at myself in the mirror, a huge smile came across my face and for the first time, I imagined myself walking down the aisle. It wasn’t really the huge WOW feeling I was expecting but I did love the dress! When I walked out, everyone in the store stopped and stared so I guessed it was ‘the one’. I still needed confirmation and tried on more dresses after that (I even went to another store) but none compared. My friend got the third dress she tried on so everyone is different. Don't stop looking until you are extremely happy with your choice. Good Luck!

Re: How did you decide on your dress?
I did not have that this is 'the one' feeling at all. I did not cry, I did not have my draw drop and neither did my mom. My grandmother cried so that made me feel better...lol. I narrowed it down to 2 dresses and took my BM's with me and had them make the decision. They all unanimously voted on the one I picked. I tried on minimally 50 dresses and they did all start to look the same.
Definitely try on all dresses. I had my heart set on an Eve of Milady (02) dress and when I put it on, I looked like a poofball. I was waaaay too short to pull it off. And I'm 5'5'. I ended up with a strapless A-line.
I think it depends on you as a person. I'm very indecisive so not having 'the one' feeling was no surprise. Luckily, I did have that feeling when I met FH! LOL

Re: How did you decide on your dress?
I didn't cry either. I got choked up for a moment, but I think that was more b/c my mom cried. I only wanted a lace dress so my search was somewhat limited, but just when I thought I would never find 'the dress,' the saleslady bought a lace, strapless (which I didn't set out for) dress with crystals and pearls around the waist. I said, 'It's pretty,' but I wasn't expecting to love it. Well I did. My mom and I both felt like it was made for my figure and I knew I would keep comparing all other dresses to it.

Re: How did you decide on your dress?
I had an 'It's the ONE' experience. It was the first dress I tried on in the first store I went into. I came out..my mom and sister's jaw dropped and I looked in the mirror and felt so BEAUTIFUL! I knew it was the one but I was nervous that I didn't give any others a chance. so I tried on 7 more and it just confirmed that the first one was THE ONE! When I got home I tried to find it online and looked in my Knot notebook and there it was! I didn't even know I had picked it out before I even saw it.

Exactly! You know it's the one when you put it on...I started to cry, my Mom, bridesmaid, FMIL - we all started to cry.
