How did you decide on your dress?

Original post by LoveisBliss

Ok, how did you ladies finally decide which dress was 'the one'?

Is it true that 'you just know' when you try it on??

If you check out my dress pics in my photo album, I tend to go for the strapless, ballgown, full skirt, detail on the bodice and the bottom, long train..... But, after a while of searching, to me, they all start to look the same.... Help!

I haven't even gone to try them on yet... I can't imagine how frustrating an experience that would be... I would probably go through every dress in every store and still not able to pick one out!

Internet/magazine searching is frustrating enough...

Help/advice... Thanks!

I agree.....I tried on all the dresses I saw in magazines that I thought I wanted (ballgown, white, poofy, etc.). I tried on those dresses in the store and just did not like them and was not thrilled. We were getting ready to leave a bridal salon and my MOH (sister) brought this dress into the room and told me to try it on. My response to her was 'I am not trying on that hideous looking dress'. Well, she pulled rank as my MOH and OLDER sister and made me try on the dress. She would not let me see it until I was totally in the dress and standing in the middle of the Bridal Salon in front of the mirror....WELL, I fell in love . . . and did not want to take the dress off. I am a firm believer in you will know it when you put it on, just go with an open mind. Here is my dress . . . .

WOW!! Your dress is FABULOUS! It fits you perfectly and I love how even tho it is a strapless, it comes up high so your boobies arent falling out. What a GREAT dress!! what is it?

omg..I love it!!

I had been dress shopping a few times and when I would describe some of the dresses I always said something like, 'Oh and it has this crazy thing over here,' and 'There's something wild happening over my hip, blah blah blah.' When I tried on the one I picked and I would describe it to people I would start with, 'This one is just perfect, it has...' Then any dres sI tried on after I compared it to that one and I was never in a hurry to take it off at the store!!! It was exactly my taste and style.

Try Lillettes in Baldwin, make an appointment with Geri if you can. She can help you find a style that will suit your body type and style.

I swore to myself I would wear sleeves and not a full skirt, I wanted a strict a-line. In the end I ended up with strapless and a really full a-line skirt.

I love that about the dress too. I liked the look of strapless but did not want the 'girls' hanging out all night, not my idea of classy....

The dress is a Maggie Sottero

internet/magazine searching isnt a big help...FOr months before i bought my dress i looked at every magazine and site, and out of all of them only 1 really caught my eye and then about a handful i thought were nice thats it...i was scared to go shopping bc thought id have a hard time finding anything.

Dresses look completely different in person, in pics you cant see details the same way, it will be completely different, and its also different to see what it looks like on you

I actully saw my dress on another bride. This girl was walking through Bridal Reflections in this gorgeous gown. I told the saleswoman that I needed to try on that dress. I tried on a few before it that were nice, but I didn't feel anything. But when I put this dress... it felt like mine. I love it!

I also had 'the one' experience... and I didn't even try it on!

I looked at thousands of dresses online, and all gowns under 3k looked blah to me.... and then I saw it!

I ordered it sight unseen and am as happy as a clam in it

also found a matching veil from the same vendor....

I tried on tons of dresses and I just kept going back to this one and that is the dress I just knew it. I think it is just a feeling and you kinda of always go back to that first dress you just loved. Because every dress you try on after that you keep comparing it and then no other dress lives up to that standard so that is when you know that is the dress..

I found a million dreses i loved and hated all of them when i tried them on, my mom picked out this really ugly looking dress and i tried it on, and loved it! pictures in magizines, and even hanging on the rack are so different then when you put it on, I never got that 'wow' factor, but the dress just felt right. You'll def. know when its right though. good luck

just try on everything, even if you think the dress is not your style or not so hot on the hanger. i PROMISE you, that's the way to go instead of limiting yourself and you'll know THE dress when you find it.

You will know. When you put the right dress on, you feel very contented.

Trying them on is a lot different from looking in a magazine or online. You can get a feel for the dress and how you feel in it. Plus it's so much fun!!!! I say try on as many as you want and you will 'Know' when you find the right one!!!

I agree. I think once you try on 'the dress', you'll feel really good about it and confident wearing it. You should feel pretty in it. It's also helpful to bring 1 or 2 people from your bridal party or just friends you trust. Let them know you want their honest opinion. I brought my bridesmaids with me and asked for their input. They were very honest with me and told me what they felt looked good and looked bad.

It was the first one I tried on. I put 2 others on just to satisfy my mom & sis. There were girls at the store and they said 'You know that's your dress right?' I love it. So in all I spent 10 min. trying on dresses.

i was not one to believe the whole idea of crying and getting this special feeling bc im not really like that. But after trying on a bunch of dresses i did just know which one was right for me. I knew because i didnt want to take it off lol i still then went to another dress store the next day and while i was trying on each dress i was thinking about how they dont even compare to my dress. so then i went back and got it. I agree with you, sometimes they all do seem to look similar, the one thats for you will definitely stand out and be different, mine was at least. good luck!!!!

I haven't been able to decide yet either. I like too many dresses. I don't know which one looks best and I am very confused.
