How did you decide your song?

How did you decide your song?

I've seen several things about people trying to decide on what song to use so I figured i'd start.. Maybe they could get some ideas.

We didn't really have a song and were discussing what we could use. We tossed away some of the normal songs, FH's fave is 'everything I do' and we debated on using that. One day when I was on my way to work I heard 'far away' and thought it was such a nice song. When I got home i looked at the lyrics and decided it was perfect.

We were apart for several years and decided we never wanted to be away from each other again. I mentioned it to FH the next day and we decided to use it!!!

This is all in the true cornball style as I am.

Oh that's nice. It means so much more when there is real meaning behind it. My and FH couldn't decide on a song so his brother is writing and singing it for us! I'm so excited!

DH and i could NOT agree on a song--i felt like we were doomed for not having a 'song'. it was ridiclious. 3 days before the wedding at the final DJ appt., still NO song. i was so exhausted and freaked out.

i had a Michael Buble cd in the car, and it was playing, the next day (2 days before the wedding). i think on the last track the song 'That's All' came on, and DH said 'wait, this song is so great', we listened to it and realized it was the one....FINALLY! we called the DJ, the next day (1 day before the wedding mind you) and he told us to bring the CD just in case, but he was pretty sure he had the song.

all of our friends and family were surprised at it--cause its so soft and classic....but it fit us to a T

We just wanted a duet song...

We kind of just googled 'love song duets' and found ours!

So romantic, I know!

My mom absolutely LOVES Micael Buble. She made me download a bunch of his songs so she could put it on her ipod.I'm thinking we should play something when they walk out but i'm not sure what. Then again I have a while to worry about that LOL.

Re: How did you decide your song?

I heard this song by John Legend on the radio one night while I was driving home. Once I got in, i went to go download it but couldn't remember the name... i downloaded a few John Legend songs and came across, 'Stay with You' on accident. The words made me cry. As soon as FH came in that night (mind you, we were only dating 3 months at the time) he said, 'this should be our wedding song when we get married'. I got all teary-eyed and of course wouldn't imagine any other song for our first dance.

The first time I went to visit FH when we first started dating (we lived on opposite coasts) he had this cd in the car of someone I had never heard of, Marc Broussard. He had been to see him a couple times in concert and put on one particular song and told me 'Any time I hear this song I think of you and miss you'. Its called The Beauty of Who You Are, and when he played it I thought it was just gorgeous and so unique. There was no question that this would be our song when we got married!

My fh played this particular song for me one day and said 'i always pictured this being our wedding song.' So it was, it is very different and no one really knows it, which makes me love it even more. It is called, Walk Forever By My Side by The Alarm

I was flipping through the stations (after Idol- looking for Carrie's new song) and low and behold- Rascall Flatts, bless the broken road came on. I had heard it before, but never listened to it. But then the waterworks came on...lol..

I played it for FH and he was like 'oh, ok- yes its a good song, now leave me alone'- but now that he's listened to it- he likes it too.

It reminds me of us b/c we broke up then got back together- hence the broken road. And I didn't realize that all roads were pointing to him, blah, blah, blah- so it's now our song...lol

I LOOOOVE that song! I was thinking about it also but FH is scared it's too slow...maybe I can work on him right now our song is 'You're All I Need to Get By', the original w/ Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. We were going to mix in the Method Man/Mary J. Blige at the end to get everyone on the floor but i'm not sure...

Re: How did you decide your song?

There was no discussion neccesary! We both met through our love of David Bowie and before we started really dating, we were kidding about us getting married, and worked out a whole silly Bowie wedding. The song was the one thing that we took seriously. The lyrics are below, because I doubt anyone's heard it before:

I've nothing much to offer
There's nothing much to take
I'm an absolute beginner
And I'm absolutely sane
As long as we're together
The rest can go to hell
I absolutely love you
But we're absolute beginners
With eyes completely open
But nervous all the same

If our love song
Could fly over mountains
Could laugh at the ocean
Just like the films
There's no reason
To feel all the hard times
To lay down the hard lines
It's absolutely true

Nothing much could happen
Nothing we can't shake
Oh we're absolute beginners
With nothing much at stake
As long as you're still smiling
There's nothing more I need
I absolutely love you
But we're absolute beginners
But if my love is your love
We're certain to succeed

If our love song
Could fly over mountains
Sail over heartaches
Just like the films
There's no reason
To feel all the hard times
To lay down the hard lines
It's absolutely true

My mom made me listen to this song a few times and I really fell in love with it. My FH was like no way blah, blah blah. And after really listening to the words Steve was like oh my god this is the perfect wedding song. Of course I was going to win, I'm the bride.

We were going back and forth on many songs that we liked. We were at a friend's house one night and they played a song they thought we would like and that became our song.

Our song chose us! when we both heard it, i think we knew immediately it would be our song, even though it was years before our engagement.

Re: How did you decide your song?

i didn't want your typically sappy song we aren't that type of couple. We both like heavier stuff and we knew nothing like that would be acceptable to play at a wedding so we kept plugging away on lighter and lighter bands till some guy drove by blasting led zep and we said THANK YOU .. but we didn't want people thinking we are in love with led zep so i realized Tori Amos had covers... and one of them was thank you.

therefore it was picked.

As someone else said, a song will usually find you not the other way around :) Sounds like you guys also!

At first we were looking for a song about getting back together but couldn't figure anything out!!!.

Re: How did you decide your song?

We were dating maybe 3 weeks and Fuel was playing at Mulchays (Mulcheesy's ). Unfortunately I had class that night so FH went with his friends. during class he was texting me that he wished i was there, so on break i left class and went to muls. i took like 20 minutes to find him in the crowd. once i got there the next song they played was 'Falls On Me'. FH came up behind me and started singing it in my ear.

that became our 'dating song'. then when it came time to choose the wedding song he didnt even consider it until my aunt asked what our dating song was and we're like...hmmmmm. and the rest is history...
