How did you decide your song?

Original post by jsta76

I've seen several things about people trying to decide on what song to use so I figured i'd start.. Maybe they could get some ideas.

We didn't really have a song and were discussing what we could use. We tossed away some of the normal songs, FH's fave is 'everything I do' and we debated on using that. One day when I was on my way to work I heard 'far away' and thought it was such a nice song. When I got home i looked at the lyrics and decided it was perfect.

We were apart for several years and decided we never wanted to be away from each other again. I mentioned it to FH the next day and we decided to use it!!!

This is all in the true cornball style as I am.

I heard this song by John Legend on the radio one night while I was driving home. Once I got in, i went to go download it but couldn't remember the name... i downloaded a few John Legend songs and came across, 'Stay with You' on accident. The words made me cry. As soon as FH came in that night (mind you, we were only dating 3 months at the time) he said, 'this should be our wedding song when we get married'. I got all teary-eyed and of course wouldn't imagine any other song for our first dance.

I LOOOOVE that song! I was thinking about it also but FH is scared it's too slow...maybe I can work on him right now our song is 'You're All I Need to Get By', the original w/ Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. We were going to mix in the Method Man/Mary J. Blige at the end to get everyone on the floor but i'm not sure...

That is also and awesome song!!! we feared the JL song being too slow, but i think we are going to take dance lessons to learn how to dance to it (corny, i know)

good luck and let me know what you end up ewith!!

I know what you mean, several times i've heard the song on the radio and pulled FH to dance with him. Sometimes he even does the same.

Re: How did you decide your song?

we had a very ... rocky road... i guess you could say when it came to our relationship.
we were best friends who felli in love but i was engaged to someone else... we wound up not speaking for a year b/c of it.
so all of 'OUR' songs... are kind of sad 'i miss you' songs. Or just... not very weddingish. We havent chosen a song yet b/c of that.
We have a song in mind but it's not a slow song so it'll probobly be our second dance. It's actually where my chat name is from.

I played a song for him tonight that i thought could be our song and it made him so depressed that he was in a funk for the rest of the night. i tried to explain that end was happy but all he could think about was the fact that the couple was old and dying. stupid boy, doesnt he realize that it's romantic??

that song is 'Where've You Been' by Kathy Mattea if you're interested. I have loved that song since i was a little girl and i am convinced that it's the best love song ever written. I cry every single time i hear it.

FH was playing around with his I-Tunes, and he played the song, and, I started crying, and we both knew it was our song!!!
