How did you find your dress?

How did you find your dress?

I am a little scared now because I read on many occassions that the bride should order the dress 9-12 months before the wedding, as sometimes they take a while to come in, then the fitting etc.... so I plan on start looking when I come back from vaca in June

What are some good mags to look at styles? Where/how did you find your dress??

I actually (please don't be mad..) but i used the Knot's Gown search to help me look at dresses.. It was the easiest way for me to narrow things down... That part of the Knot is great! I did the same with bridesmaid dresses... I was able to narrow by style, designer and price. Lets you get right to business!

I am on the knot as well, that was the first thing the engaged/married girls here at work told me to do - to sign up on the knot!
Then I found LIW and that was the end of the knot, I still go on once in a blue moon to brows through ideas and look at pics!

I found my dress in the bridal store. The woman brought it to me because it was a new dress. I wouldn't have tried it on otherwise.

I didn't get my dress yet- I'll probably start looking soon.

BUT I too have found the knot's gown search helpful- kind of helps you figure out your tastes, learn about designers, colors, styles, prices...etc.

Also the dress threads here on LIW are so helpful...

good luck and don't stress- you have PLENTY of time!!

I didn't get my dress either, dont stress it's supposed to be fun give them a different wedding date so they have it in on time

I started looking online (using the LIW designers links) and in mags to decide what style I wanted to go with. Then I would go to different stores and tell them what my tastes were. At Macy's they pulled THE ONE out and I loved it, didn't want to take it off and tried it on 2x. I didn't buy it there tho bc of the price, so I had another place order it bc I got a discount there. I don't think you have to worry, June should be fine to start looking.

I didnt start looking for a dress either, but i started looking through magazines such as, MOdern Bride and Brides. I ripped out the dresses/styles i liked and began making a portfolio to make the process easier for the person that may end up helping me at the bridal shop.

I started looking at magazines, I like Brides and Modern Bride. The Knot has a magazine too. Anyway, I found my dress in Modern Bride I believe and cut it out and brought it with me to the salon. I tried it on and LOVED it!
Some people said that you may not like it on as you do in the picture. Which is true but I got lucky and loved it. I think by looking through the magazines really helped me.

started pulling gowns from bridal mags i had, went to a few shops with my MOH in ct-without my mom knowing cause she would have been upset-she wanted to go with me first...(only daughter/only child)..whoops

then when i went to LI mom and I went to one shop tried on everything i thought i liked and then things the lady thought i would like
found one i loved, wanted to buy it, mom wanted me to wait and look somewhere else

went to adriennes in islip the day after- found THE DRESS- tried on many but completely fell in love with the one I wound up getting!

you will know! you will get a feeling! BUT have fun with it, it went fast, but it was defintely a time with my mother i wont ever forget- she had tears in her eyes when i walked out with the first gown on!

I just found out about Grown Find frm the BHB board. Holy smokes batman, the prices are so goooood!

Too bad I have to wait till the 2nd week of June to go look at gowns, cuz one of my BM is going on vacation this friday and I am on vacation the week after her!

My MOH dragged me to a trunk show at Bridal Reflections. It was wayyyyy to early to shop for a dress.. I found the perfect one.. Needless to say, the deposit went down.. no regrets. I think Im in love (again)

I had spent weeks on the knot as well as looking at magazines. None of that mattered though when I went into David's and found THE DRESS on display. It was nothing like I ever imagined I would wear.

One piece of advice - keep an open mind. Have an idea of what you like but try on everything. You will be surprised.

I ordered my dress from Phyllis at gownfind and she was great! She saved me a lot of $$!

i went in with an open mind....told them what i didnt want (cleavage) and narrowed down styles from there. i had a general idea....but you NEED AN OPEN MIND WHEN YOU START!!!

I looked in Modern Bride & Bridal Guide to get ideas of what I was looking for...Didn't see anything that really caught my eye...I had a better time going to the bridal salon & trying on dresses...I tried everything on, even if I didn't like it on the hanger...My dress happened to be one of the ones that I didn't like on the hanger!

i went to estelles, renates and burtons.
burtons owner, carole, pointed me a to a dress just as i was leaving. i told her it looked like the same dress that i tried on before, and i was about to dismiss it.

then i tried it on and it was the one.
