How did you know they were 'the one'

A couple of years ago my dad passed away and things were really crazy in my life. I never thought things would get better and I would hope to g-d that an angel could come and make my life better. Two years after my dad's passing I met the boyfriend I have now...when we were first getting to know each other we started talking about tattoos (I had just gotten one) and he said he had two. When I asked to show me his--he picked up his shirt and there on his chest was a tattoo of an angel! i am NOT making this up, it was such a sign!! Obviously thats not the ONLY reason I know hes the one but it was too freaky to ignore...LOL

I can totally relate to your story!!! My mom died two weeks after I met FH, who is the most wonderful person I ever met!!! They never met, but I know my mom is largely responsible for me finding FH!!! We were very close and I know she wanted me to find someone to ease my pain!!! I knew he was the one when he stayed by my side throughout the wake and funeral; he only knew me for two weeks before that!!!!

I don't mean to sound dumb but I had never truly been in love before I met FI. I always thought there was something wrong with me that I would lose interest in a guy after a few months and I would pray that God would send me someone to love. After a few months of dating FI, I still got butterflies in my stomach when I saw him and still after 2 and a half years I do. So, I guess it was actually being in love with him that made me realize he was 'the one'. I couldn't ask God for anyone better.

The first night we went out something felt funny, I never felt that way about anyone it was like I knew him forever and it still feels that same way. The thing that freaked me out a little bit is I thought he said his b-day was 9/28 but it was 9/23 my great grandmas b-day who I was very close to, so to this day I know she sent him to me.

That is such a sweet story.

I only asked for a man who would love me as much as I had once loved another. I had dedicted my life once. I was unfortunately the only one in the set that did.

Jim really cares.. and he's so dedicated. He's stuck with me through thick and thin. In the beginning I'd always say to him things like 'well if you're still around next year, we'll do.....'

He's still around. Thats big for me. I started dreaming of him as the father of our children. I thought about how we'd live our lives as old farts complaining about eachother. I saw our fights and him sleeping on the couch or me crying in aggrivation. All this and I still saw I'd be happy. That made him the one.

I knew that if I got on a plane and traveled 1000 miles to spend 3 days with him, that he was NOT an ordinary guy. Knowing he was 'the one' helped me survive a very long two years of a long distance relationship.

This was from another post from a while back. This is when I knew I loved him and also he was the one.

I knew I loved him when we were getting very intimate and I was a virgin and was wondering if this was something I wanted to go for or wait. He told me that the choice was up to me because I had waited so long (I was 25).He said, ' If we were both 15, I would try to convince you that this is the greatest gift we could give one another, but we are 25 and you have waited a long time for this to be perfect. Why don't we wait a while longer?'

I was in love after that.

My husband didn't have the best track record with long-term relationships....so I made him wait for 5 months for 'you know what'.

During that 5 months, he never tried, never pushed, never pressured.
He said he wanted me to know that he was not going anywhere, and that if I wanted to wait until our wedding night (he was pretty confident, obviously) that he would. (Even though I was not a virgin )

I made him suffer a while longer....lol.

He also is the sweetest most thoughtful person I know. The way he loves me is the way I always dreamt of being loved.

i relized it was him when my daughter and i were at adventureland (i work for a day camp during the summer) and he showed up just to spend time with her to get to know her.(he took a day off from work) it just pulled on my heart strings! then one of my camp kids turned to my daughter and said is this your daddy! i was just about to jump in but then my daughter said yes this is my daddy! i turned away and cried my eyes out! later on he had won me a little red heart and at the same time i had won one for him too and we gave it to each other at the same time! it was freaky!
i had only known him for 1 week when this happen and that is when i knew!! oddly enough she does look alot like him! and everyone tells her she looks more like daddy then mommy! hehe

I just know that there is no one else that I would want to spend forever with... and he's the one person that I can do absolutely nothing with but still have the best time of my life... he's also the one person I just cannot get enough of and the feelings I have for him cannot be expressed in words...

I can totally relate to MuchInLuvMichi & KathleenG. My dad passed away a month & half after my FH & I met. They also had never met. I am so convinced that my dad sent him to be with me. I had been seeing someone else when I met FH. We weren't serious but had been seeing each other for a while. He had wanted to take things further right after I met FH and I decided to break things off with him. About 6 months later the guy I had been seeing passed away also. It was at that moment I knew this was the person I was going to spend the rest of my life with.

First time I saw her walk towards my car to meet me, my heart was so happy. We had the best first date, and I knew she was someone I would be happy with. The more I got to knew her, the more I couldn't live without her. She makes me feel so wonderful when she is with me. I can imagine our whole future together.

I have more fun with her, than anyone I have ever known. She's always here for me when I need her most. Most importantly, I get back all the love I give. When I look into her eyes, I know she is the one for me. And I've known that for quite a few years now.

When I am in the foulest of moods, he is always the only one who can me smile, even laugh.

And.....one time I ripped my toenail really bad. It was really painful and disgusting looking. I was too much of a wuss to touch it, so he played doctor and fixed it all up. At that moment, I thought Damn! This guy must REALLY love me!

Re: How did you know they were 'the one'

My FI and I had been friends for years before we got together.
I was going through a pretty rough time in my life, I had been kicked out of my house and was living with a friend and just broke up with my boyfriend of 2 yrs when things began to change in our friendship.
I felt like I had no family, no one to love me, no one to help me, And I was scared of what the future would bring.
I was all alone on christmas and he called me up and told me to get dresses because he was taking me to his house for dinner. He said that there was no way he was letting his future wife be alone for christmas.
I of course went and the rest is history, but that is the moment I knew he was the one for me and from then on I made it my job to show him I was the one for him.

Re: How did you know they were 'the one'

I was in love with him before I actually met him!

We met online --though in my heart I firmly believe that somehow, someway, we would have met down the road .. it was meant to be.

I'd never felt 'complete' until I met him .. it was as if the missing piece of my puzzle finally turned up! Before him, I had never been in ANY relationship that gave me 1/4 the feelings that meeting FH did. I finally knew what 'being in love' felt like!

I had gotten out of a long-term relationship that had been going nowhere, but it still hurt when it ended. My beloved grandmother had just passed away. I had a big falling out with my BF, and I had just switched from one job (that i loved) to another job (which I hated) .. so overall, life stunk..

A friend and I were both kind of bored and went 'online' to meet guys and have fun. I was not looking for 'the man of my dreams.' I was giving it ONE MONTH and then cancelling the account. Then Anthony emailed me. I had a thing in my profile about how I was a HUGE Yankees fan and that I had to meet a man who felt the same -- of course, he emailed me even though he was a huge METS fan, just to see my reaction! LOL From the start, I liked his sense of humor and his 'nerve'

Lo and behold, what started out as casual joking via email started developing into something VERY intense and personal. I still don't know how it happened, but I would get up every morning and hope to get an email from him! We just had THE best email conversations! We read each others minds and agreed on everything, on every level. We 'talked' more those first couple months than most people talk in years! I saw such a pure heart and loving soul just from the way he would talk about his family and friends .. and even before I had ever seen this man, or spoken to him on the phone, I started telling him 'I missed him' and I knew I was starting to fall for him, (as crazy as that sounds!)

Finally 2 mos later, we agreed to meet - and it was instantaneous -- I never before believed in 'love at first sight,' but both of us were speechless.. He was just perfect in my eyes (and SO darn cute!) We 'knew' each other, but had never actually MET. We stayed up the entire night talking .. he told me months later that from that day, he knew he was going to marry me (and this, coming from a 'confirmed' bachelor!)

So how DID I know he was the one? That's easy -- he is my soulmate, bottom line. He is also my best friend. I simply cannot fathom MY future without him in it, nor do I want to. He makes me laugh harder than anyone else, cry just from the joy I get from loving him, and I feel more content than I've ever felt in my life. I am not 'searching' for happiness any longer, because I honestly could not GET any happier!

Mind you, this is coming from a girl who swore she'd NEVER get married and would NEVER be 'in love' ... (and he used to same the same things, too!)

When Cupid directed his arrow at us ... BAM!!

Oh yeah ... we're still trying to get over our Yankees/Mets differences ... What I'll do for love -- marrying a Mets fan! Ugh!!!

Aww these stories are so cute! This is a great topic. I knew he was the one for a long time. Just things kept happening that confirmed it. I have had a rough past and he accepted all my baggage. My dad before he passed away asked him to take care of me and my mom. My dad would not have said that to him if he was not sure. And he asked me to marry him when I was wearing my granny robe.
