Re: How did you pick your gown??
For me I just knew. I loved it when I saw it on the rack. It wasn't the 1st one I tried on though. The lady put them in the dressing room one by one w/o asking me which one I wanted to try each time. I liked the first 2 I had on too but as soon as I put this one on I knew it was the one!!!

Re: How did you pick your gown??
I had tried on a bunch (maybe 10) at the Bridal Building that day & when I saw mine on the rack I was like 'Ehh - it's ok.' After I put it on, though, the lady in the shop turned off the lights so that only a few track lights were on & as soon as she did it got all twinkly and I had a total 'Wow moment.' My friend/BM & my mom were with me & they both teared up, so I just knew it then

Re: How did you pick your gown??
My mom insisted I try 'just this one on' when we were there at the bridal salon not even looking at dresses yet. I was there looking at colors of Bm dresses, so I finally let in and as soon as I saw it on I began bawling, I knew right away that it was the one. I tried several other ones on and none of them gave me that same feeling!!

Re: How did you pick your gown??
I knew I had my dress on day 2, but figured it couldn't be that easy! So I kept looking and looking, but always ended up coming back to the same dress. One day I tried it on with THE veil and I just knew, then I put on the crinolin skirt and it all came together. So if you think you know and are unsure, keep looking and then always save that dress for last (if the other store has it) GL, you wil find it!!!

Re: How did you pick your gown??
i tried on about 20 and i though the whole time it was the 1st one, I compared every single dress to that one, and then my mom picked this really ugly dress and said oh please try it on for me, and I really liked it, it was the most movalble in dress if that means anything, but I never had that WOW factor, and everytime i see my dress in the bag, i think eww, but when i put it on, i always remember why i got it! Re: How did you pick your gown??
my story is looong but so was my search,,haha
I went to so many dress places & tried on over 100 dresses.....no joke...found many that I liked..but nothing that made me feel like a 'bride'...so on a day i was supposed to be doing an art show (it got rained out) i decided to try shopping with my Mom for the first time...went to Fantasia cause they didn't require appts...found the dress i thought was the 'one' to show my mom & decided to grab some others...Mom & I liked the first one...but when i tried on 'the real one' (which the saleslady had pulled for me)...i was like...crap! I love this dress..and my Mom didn't want to say she liked it better either...but we both said 'i love this dres!'...when the saleslady said 'oh, well we have one that is brand new, in stock, with tags & has never been worn...that is for sale for HALF price'..i was like...ok but what are the chances it'll fit???
Guess what...the freakin thing fit perfect, except for the boobs..and only needed like an inch taken off the hem....so on a day i wasn't even suppposed to be looking, & that i finally convinced my Mom to come...i found my dress..and LOVED wearing it! The end...haha...don't give up until you have that moment! (pics of many contenders in my Wedding Dress album)

Re: How did you pick your gown??
I looked online at first and printed out photos of the dresses I liked...I'd email them to my MOH and Mom and get their feedback. Then after posting on this site that I was nervous I wouldn't be able to pull of my Nov. 4, 2007 wedding in time, I made an appt at Lillette's because so many brides on this site used that shop. And I live in Baldwin, where Lillette's is located.
I was the first appt of the day and it was quiet. I was the only bride to be there trying on gowns. Carol -- who is a saint and an angel all wrapped into one -- looked at the photos I had printed out and started pulling the dresses off the rack. Then she added a few that she thought had a similar look to the ones I showed her.
Wouldn't you know...the second dress I tried on was one of her choices and before she had it zipped up, I was crying like a baby. When I went out of the fitting room and saw it in real light, I knew it was made for me.
I felt like a goddess and beautiful woman...so I bought it there on the spot.
For my Mom's sake -- her voice was in my head the whole time...she was working that day and couldn't come -- I tried on about 8 other dresses. But I knew I had found 'the one' already.
HTH!

Re: How did you pick your gown??
you just know. i pulled a ton of pages out of a magazine. then when i got to the bridal store they didnt have them all. they had the one i 'kinda liked' then when i finally tried it on, it felt right, my mom cried and everyone stopped and turned.....it was PERFECT! i didnt even want to take it off. i love my dress! i tried a lot of dresses on before it and they were nice, but not IT. so be patient and the dress will find you.

Re: How did you pick your gown??
I tried on less than other people, probably, and while I didn't LOVE my dress at first, it was the one i kept thinking about, and thinking about, and thinking about. I went back with my mom and just knew it was THE dress.

Re: How did you pick your gown??
I went into the salon with a bunch of dresses I wanted to try.. BUT the women at the bridal salon c also choose some that she thought would look good on me.. I was so confused about all of them.. I liked them all.. Then I tried my dress on and I started to tear up.. and I said I love this one!!! The lady at the bridal store said to me.. 'You see this is the one, all the other dresses you said you liked, BUT this one you said you loved'
Thats how I found my dress...
ETA: I probably tried on about 14 dresses

Re: How did you pick your gown??
The day I found my dress, I was actually in love with another dress but the one I had tried on was white. Since I knew I wanted an ivory dress, I asked the saleslady if she had a sample in ivory. She brought back what is now my dress in ivory and told me to try it on to see if I liked the color while she went to look for the other dress in ivory. At first glance I thought it had 'too much going on' since the one I was in love with was much simpler. But I put it on and stood there with my BMs for a few minutes waiting for her to come back. The more I looked at it, the more I liked it. I turned around and noticed by 2 BMs were staring at me kind of funny, too. We all were like, this is IT! But I wanted my mom to see, and since I'm OOT, I waited a few days for her to come down. I tried on both dresses again and she took pictures. She refused to give me her opinion because she wanted me to make up my own mind. But when she went home, she showed the pics to my grandma, who promptly told me that the other dress I was in love with made my butt look big! (It had a fuller skirt). She's the only person in the world who could say that to me and get away with it, and I love her like crazy. She lives in a nursing home in NY and I'm here, so It means so much to me that she was able to be part of that process.

Re: How did you pick your gown??
i too went searching far and wide for my dress. i tried on a dress at rk bridal in the city that i was in loveeee with and always kept comparing all my other dresses to it. then i went to lotus bridal in brooklyn and wendy (saleslady) pulled a dress out for me that she could tell I was going to like. i felt like she knew me based on what few pictures i had shown her so i trusted her completely. i have this wierd psychotic thing about not looking at a dress until i'm in front of the mirror, so i didn't try to look at myself until i could see the whole entire picture. when i saw myself all sparkly and bling-y i knew it was the one! when you know, you know - believe me!

Re: How did you pick your gown??
I picked my dress in one day! I went to Macy's with my mom and tried on about five. Nothing too special but a few I liked. Then we went to Fantasia Bridal in Rocky Point. I told the woman I wanted A-line - nothing too poofy, maybe a halter. I see the beading on one of them in a bag and went to pull it out and the woman said - no that's not what you described. I tried it on anyway and I fell in love. It is the poofiest dress I have ever seen and I feel like cinderella. It is amazing! It hides my flaws, and shows off my best parts! I can't wait to pick it up this afternoon!

Re: How did you pick your gown??
I saw an ad in a magazine and I fell so in love with this dress. I couldnt get that image out of my mind, I still cant.....Then when I actually tried to look for dresses on my first outing, I couldnt even find one dress I could think of wearing. They were all so not me, nothing could compare, as i still had that image in my head of that dress......I ordered it right away at a bridal shop who said, if it came in and I didnt like it, I could order something else and not lose any money, I mean come on, how could I go wrong. Then when it came in and they showed it to me in the dress bag, I said thats not my dress, they said its the one you ordered. Trust me they said try it on, well that was very true, when it put it on, WOW, I was so thrilled, it was all I ever dreamed it would be and fit me perfect.......I think you just know, but trying it on, in reference to looking at it on a hanger is so different, so try those dresses on.......you will find your perfect dress and will know its for you

Re: How did you pick your gown??
I tried on a few and fell in love with 2 of them. The deciding factor was pretty practical - because of the design one of them couldn't be shortened and I can't walk in ultra high heals - so I chose the one which could be shortened :)

Re: How did you pick your gown??
I scoured magazines and websites looking for my style but I tried on everything imaginable, even if it really wasn't me because I you only get to do this once so what the hell, right! Then I fell in love with this lace gown that was SO not my style at all! Everyone thought it was pretty but also confused because it didn't look like something I'd pick at all. I was determined to get it until I found it was big $$$$$!
So we kept checking places out. Finally, my MOH (FSIL) showed me some pics of dresses she thought I would like and one of them was a dress that I had originally looked at when I was first engaged. I thought it was funny coincidence and we made it a point to try it on. We trekked all the way to NJ to try this gown on and had to make a special request to have it there! Needless to say, I felt like a total rockstar in it! I know, most girls say their mom's cried or they fell in love, but I totally felt like a rock star and HAD to have it! but it would never have happened if that first dress wasn't out of my price range!
