How did you pick your wedding date?

Based on availabilty of your favorite hall?
Special date for you?

We are discussing marriage, and my BF says.. I think I could see a spring of 09 event in our future.. wink wink.
LOL

I have thought about a future wedding ( ive been married before , in June)
In the past I thought I would love a winter wedding . I was at Tavern on the Green once and saw all the beautiful pics... LOVED IT.

But, i also love all the pretty spring colors .

How does one decide??

We picked because we wanted winter and a sunday - so MLK weekend was perfect so hopefully some people would have off from work the next day.

We picked our date for a few reasons;

1. Because we didn't want to p!ss off our family by inviting them to another wedding over Labor Day weekend like my cousin did last year. FH and I were particularly POed because Dave Matthews Band plays the Gorge every Labor Day and we missed it.

2. The only other opening the hall had wasn't until November!

3. It was the only time/day we could get the chapel and the room we needed.

Not very romantic but it turns out it's the day before my brother/SIL's wedding anniversary so it turned out to be special.

we wanted a summer wedding because we wanted an outdoor ceremony. we liked the date because I was off for work for a month before the wedding which would free up time to do last min things than after the wedding I would still have a month off to relax and go on HM.

We originally wanted 5/6/06 but my SIL changed her date to 5/6/06 so we changed it to the 11th of 07....and in New York. We had to change it to the 25th b/c DHs best friend passed on the 11th and we felt that the week after was too close, so we went with the 25th. We both wanted May that was our only want as far as date

Originally, we picked June 25 because of my vacation schedule at work. Unfortunately, we had to change because DH who at the time was in Iraq was stop/loss and wouldn't be returning until end July. Then we decided to have an October wedding but due to all the jewish holidays falling on a Sunday, it would be impossible to get a rabbi for a morning service. So in the end, we picked Nov. 5th. I think it was meant to be that we got married in the fall because that was the time of year that we first met.

mostly due to FH's Army schedule. We're getting married the weekend before Thanksgiving, which gives him time to fly in two days before the wedding, get married and take a mini-honeymoon and come back Thanksgiving morning.

It worked out perfectly, because I really wanted a fall wedding anyway, and we got a great deal since it is an off-peak date.

Over the years, '2' has always been included in some type of anniversary/special moment day... I knew I had to have it in the summer b/c of a school schedule and aug of 09 and a '2' on a weekend so it was perfect

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

We got engaged in May of 06.

We figured it out this way:

1) We hate HOT, we didn't want to be sweating on our wedding day. So spring, summer and very early fall were out.

2) I don't like the cold, and didn't want to deal with possibilities of snow ... so the real winter was out too.

3) We wanted a holiday weekend, where at least some people will be off. Labor Day can be hot. Columbus Day wasn't our preference because 2 of my cousins got married that weekend -- we wanted our own weekend.

4) We knew for certain we wanted a Saturday night.

All of this led to 11/10 .... its the fall, its a Saturday night, and its a long weekend for some.

We picked our date because Oct 10th is FH's grandparent's anniversary. And next year is their 60th, so it was really important to him. I don't like the heat and I always wanted the fall, so it all worked out.

We went right for the off season prices, so it was easy from there. I had always liked the fall, but that was too expensive, and I didn't want to drag a giant Victorian style wedding party around in the middle of summer either. So we went with early March. There is the excitement of not being able to depend on the weather, the cheap prices, and the freedom of costume. We are having a pre-spring celebration and I couldn't imagine it happening any other way now.

I picked November because it's a good hair month

Seriously though, right after FH proposed, I said, can we get married next Nov??? He was like... ummmm, do we already have a date a place booked!?? hahaha
So we started looking in Nov and found the perfect place and it all worked out!!!

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

I wanted Fall originally, but with my parents retiring and planning to move OOS, we decided summer would be best. Once I realized this, I remembered how I wanted to get married in July when I was younger.

We said anytime in July or August would work... We checked hall availability and then church availability. We had it narrowed down to 2 halls and they were only both available on 2 Saturdays during July or August. The church was only available at the time we wanted on one of those days, so that was how August 11 came to be.

Planning in 9 months, you take what you can get!

Re: How did you pick your wedding date?

We would have liked to get married on our dating anniversary, but for it to fall on a weekend we would have had to get married in '07 (too soon!) or '12 (too far away!) Plus, less convenient time of the year for friends who would have to travel.

Our date actually picked itself. I'm a law student and didn't want to get married while school was in session, so that left summer and winter breaks. We didn't want winter because many of our guests will have to travel, and we didn't want people to deal with weather complications. Plus, we hate the cold. That narrowed it down to summer. I didn't want to get married the summer of the bar exam (2009) so that left 2008 ('07 would have been nice because we could have gotten married on our 5 year dating anniv, but too soon and we're still kind of young).

2L summer is really important job-wise, so I didn't want to have to miss work (or have my friends miss work) so that pretty much left 2 weekends - the weekend of 8/9 and 8/16 - if we wanted to squeeze in a week-long honeymoon before classes start again. The second weekend leaves me a week off before the wedding to get last minute things done, and I didn't want to get married the weekend of my birthday (8/8).

To narrow things down further, I'm jewish and couldn't get married on Shabbat (Fri sundown - Sat sundown) so that left Sat night or Sunday. Sundown is late in Aug, so our ceremony would have to start at least 8pm on Friday which was later than we would have wanted, plus Sunday is cheaper!

That left us with ONE day -- 8/17/08 2 weeks before our 6 year anniv.
