....ask a higher up who will most definitely be leaving for a MUCH better job at a different company, to take me with him.....even if I don't work for him now and someone else who does work for him is foaming at the mouth to go? (And I work for someone else right next door to him).
He wouldn't take her in a million years (she's horrible).
Any advice?

I would say it jokingly like, if you ever go anywhere, I better go w/ you! LOL and then tell them your serious right after you say it say something like seriously though, if you ever leave here, If you have an opportunity for me, I would go too b/c I enjoy working for you

Approach him and state you heard he is leaving for [name of company] and you understand that there might be a position over there that you feel you are qualified for. Can he recommend to whom you should speak to in their HR department? If he's willing to have you come along, he will say so, if he's not comfortable (or wants to go solo for other reasons) he will either state HR person and let you try on your own or he'll say he wouldn't know.

I would go for the HR route...but the company he's leaving for is an independent company, meaning like 3 people work there, and it's for a very prestigous and famous industry person. He'd be leaving to become the President of the company...

I would go up to him, and be like 'i was looking into x company and someone told me you were going there. I'm thinking of making a move there as well - how would you recommend going about it?'

I would tell him that you are always looking for a better opportunity and you would appreciate it if he could keep his eyes and ears open if something should come up for you. He'll get the hint.

That's my instinct Shamma. I work in a business where no one gives a !@$ about ethics or corporate policy...so honestly, I am probably the only person that would care how it's handled! I just wonder what my boss would do if he found out I did this, and it didn't work out...

It depends on how your boss is - I was going to leave my company for a competitor because one of my former coworkers went there and loved it. He was mad at first, but he cooled down by the next day, and even managed to get me an incredible offer so that I wouldn't leave! As long as you have a boss that doesn't fly off the handle at the drop of a hat, I wouldn't worry about that.
Just ask your coworker directly if there is possibly another position open at the company he is going to.
