How do I approach this?

Original post by nrvbrd

I know 'and guest' means simply that, but I think people take advantage of this.

My girlfriend is not bringing her boyfriend to my wedding. They both live in another state and he does not want to pay the air fare to come here, so she is bringing a girlfriend of hers.

I guess I am different because I would not do that. She is going to know so many people at my wedding including her sister who is also a good friend of mine. Why could she not have come alone. Now I have to pay an extra plate for her 'girlfriend'.

Sorry for the vent, but people are so inconsiderate.

i can se btoh sides - one, people outside of ny often don't realize how expensive weddings can be and the other, she might not want to sit around alone the whole time!

That is the thing Kysha. If you write 'and guest' people think its an invite for ANYONE they choose. Do you know the woman she is bringing?
In a way I kind of understand since I don't like showing up to parties alone. Whether I was single or with someone, I always wanted to have someone I knew with me at all times even though I knew people at the party. The whole third, fifth wheel thing.. I am not saying that she is right by all means not really. She should have called you and asked you if that was okay before assuming.

Keisah - I know how you feel and I agree with you. Like oct10 I put the names of the guests so as not to suggest that the person can bring just anyone. I think people sometimes forget that this is a wedding. I had a guest of ours ask my FH if he was being given a guest b/c a girl who we are friendly with but not close enough to invite, wants to go. She asked him if he had a guest would he bring her b/c she reallyw wants to go. I was not very happy when I heard this. What are people thinking.

I do know the girl she is bringing. I have hung out with her on a few occasions.

I am just appalled at the lack of courtesy on my friend's part and how people treat weddings unlike the formal event it is.

I wrote after you posted what you wrote on the envelope. OK then she is wrong. What did she do send you a response for 2 people then e-mail you telling you she is bringing her friend? Then that is wrong. But I also kind of feel the third wheel thing. If she is like that, then I would say don't worry about it. But if she isn't then tell her flat out no. The invite was for her and her BF and since he isn't coming you rather not have someone else take his place.

Wanda, I emailed her telling her to send her response card since my deadline was nearing and she does live out of state. For some reason I asked if her boyfriend was making the trip with her. That is when she told me that she is bringing her friend.
Her friend lives here.
