How do I change my name?

Anyone know how I change my name? I wrote on my marriage license application that I was changing my name but I imagine that isn't enough? Thanks!

First things first--you have to go to either SS or DMV to change your name with the original marriage certificate and the right forms

Just do a search on how to change your name on here

for most credit cards--you can just call and they will do the change over the phone for you.

i honestly have to say that i think that this site is a waste of $$. its not that hard at all to change your name--and i would NOT feel comfortable giving soooooo much info to a website like my name, social, address, dob, etc. that someone else is gonna use to fill out forms that i can do myself--then just have me print them out and bring them to the DMV & SS. (since you have to do them yourself and go in person)

Did anyone that doesn't have a middle name make their maiden name their middle name to keep it? Is this a whole different process? I am debating since i don't want to lose my maiden name =)

Here is the info for DMV:

NAME CHANGING LINK FOR DMV...FORM YOU CAN DOWNLOAD, PRINT AND FILL OUT PRIOR TO GOING. FOR AFTER THE WEDDING.

SOCIAL SECURITY LOCATION FINDER LINK

LINK TO FORM YOU NEED FOR THE SS OFFICE

those are the 2 places that you HAVE to go in person.

everything else can usually be done by phone or mail.

NO fee to change your name on your SS card and $10 for the license. I did mine last week at both the SS office and the DMV and bth processes were ridiculously easy and quick.

** Just make sure you go to the CORRECT SS office.** I live in Queens and HAD to go to Jamaica.

I did my license first go to DMV with the form filled out (You can find it on the website) and ORIGINAL marriage certificate from the town and $10.

Social Security just go there with the form filled out.

Then I called all credit card companies, some wanted copy of the marriage certificate others changed it on the phone.

Change all of your insurance.

For your passport you have to mail it in with the form, 2 new passport pictures, and original marriage certificate.

Also if you have any student loans.
