You can see if your local library will take them. You can also see if a nursing home will take them. I know they will take old videos and such. Otherwise, maybe a high school. Or wait for a church Christmas fair - they always accept books to sell.

There are used book stores around the island that will buy them. The one by me is only for store credit but some may give cash.

You can sell them on amazon.com I sold a few things there and it's really easy.

You could also donate them to libraries, hospitals or nursing homes.

I believe the Strand in the city would take them. They have everything. I also think there is a place in Huntington, but I forgot the name.

Personally, when I am done with a book, I give them to my mother. She is retired and has lots of time on her hands to read them. Do you know any other retired people? If not, I second donating them to the nursing home.

I've sold books on half.com... but for the volume and types of books you are talking about I wouldn't want to sell them one at a time -- thats a lot of trips to the post office. Selling them in groups of five or so on ebay is what I'd do, but you mentioned you didn't want to do ebay... hmm... Another possibility is posting a list on the storyboard with prices or desired books to swap, some ladies here might be interested...

People have already made all the donating ideas I could think of...

If you're not looking to sell them, they can always be dropped off at a Salvation Army or thrift shop. I'm sure they would be happy to take them.

How about an old fashion yard sale - A woman did that on my block and sold her books for 50 cents each. Books were certainly flying off those tables!

I saw that you dont want to sell them on Ebay but I have sold over $600 worth of books on Half.com over the past year and a half--IMO it is the easiest site to sell on---worth looking into
