How do I handle..

How do I handle..

uninvited children?

A good friend of mine has a 10 month old and replied '2 1/2' people attending. It was written on the invitation 'Adult only reception immediately following ceremony'. I dont want to hurt his feelings but I am absolutely NOT going to budge on children being at our wedding. How do I approach him without seeming tacky?

I would just tell him matter of factly Im very sorry but if I allow you to bring your child I might have a lot of angry guests who left their children at home.

wouldn't it be great if we could say the the hall doesn't ALLOW children??? Wouldn't that solve ALL our problems?!?!?

That's what I would say too.

IMO it was tacky of them to invite their child after you were so specific on your invite. You need to tell them that although the most important thing is to have them there, they need to make arrancgements for their baby as it is strictly a no children allowed reception.

Not exactly the same but if you did not discuss children's food with the catering hall, then you absolutely can say that the hall is not 'prepared to cater' to children at your wedding. Just a thought.

I think that is the best and most tactful way to FIRMLY handle it. I can't help feeling it was wrong of them to put you on a spot like that. You couldn't have been more specific on the invite!
Sorry...

Maybe they didn't know what'adult reception' meant? Yeah, right. The nerve to put more than what's on the invite. I would definitely call them and explain to them no children are allowed.

Say it would be unfair for me to let you bring your child when no one else can.

Actually now that I was thinking my younger brother got married and did not want any children and my older step brother decided to bring them anyhow after only my brother and my SIL were on the invitation he RSVP'd for all 5 of them and then my parents called and he still brought them anyhow...

that is a tought situtation, bring it up nonchalantly, and just explain, that infortuantly the kids have to stay home, as hard as it maybe. Just be sure to emphasize, that no kids are allowed.

If I were you, I wouldn't worry at all about coming off 'tacky' 'rude' or any other negative adjective you can come up with. After all, YOU did not include an univited guest - he did. He is the one behaving in an inappropriate manner. I would get on the phone and tell him outright that he MUST make child care arrangements b/c infants and children are not welcome at the ceremony or reception, and you DO NOT want to deal with angry guests on your day because he chose to ignore that your wedding was for ADULTS only.

I'm waiting for this to happen to me - invites go out next week.

you should call them and tell them that they can only bring HALF of the child - since that is what the wrote on the RSVP - or no child at all. . . .
sorry i am lame!

but - that really stinks and i basically agree with everyone above - it would start many problems if everyone else found a baby sitter for their kids and then walked in and saw a baby there - i think a lot of people would be hurt by that and this couple has to understand that!

good luck! people are very stubborn when it comes to their kids!

SEE!!! SEE!!! It's there in black and white! No children!!!

This is a sore subject for me! I think it's rude, inconsiderate.... and why do we now have to worry about uninviting children and being 'polite' about it so we don't 'hurt thier feelings'.

Sometimes I just want to say, ' Can you read???'

UGGGHHH!!! I better stop posting bc this just makes me mad!!
