I found out this morning that one of my guests passed. Obviously today is not the time to even be thinking about myself, but I have to give my final numbers to the hall today. I am assuming that his daughter and wife will not be attending, but I don't want to bring it up, my wedding is obviously the very last thing on their mind. Should I just include them, and hope that they might need an afternoon out next week? Or should I just assume they won't be coming? I don't know how to handle this sticky situation. If it were me I wouldn't go, but I don't want to offend them.

Re: How do I handle this one?
Thats awful
Honestly I would call your RH and explain the situation to see what they suggest.. Maybe they can set places for them just incase and allow you to pay only if they show.
Anyways Im sorry to hear this

I agree with Michelle, see if the RH will allow you to pay only if they show up

I'm so sorry, that's horrible
For now, just include them-unless you have some b-listers you'd like to invite. I wouldn't bring it up to them, let them make the decision when their ready. Maybe send them a card or email letting them know your thinking about them during this sad time. Hopefully, they'll give you an answer on their own.

I'm not one to make decisions for other people. I would keep their RSVP as is and if anything changes you can always call the hall and let them know that they will not be attending. I would keep them in the list. It's a week and a half from now, the craziness might be over and like you said they might need something to do to keep them busy.

I think it's really hard to make assumptions in cases like that. It also depends on how close they are to you, how sudden or expected the death was, and how they are dealing with it.
I'd keep them on the list for now. There's no nice way to ask.

ITA It would be inappropriate to ask them. Unfortunately if they don't show up, you will lose out on money, but the money is not worth burning bridges.

I agree with this. I am sure the hall will understand this.

i would let your hall know the situation and say there are two maybes but because of a death in the family you are not sure when the funeral, etc will be and if they can make it.
tell them to set places for them, but if they do not show up to not charge you. at this point the hall should be prepared to handle two more at the last minute.
