How do I invite stepchildren?

How do I invite stepchildren?

Anybody have this problem?

FH's sister has a 7-year-old stepson, but the mother has physical custody in another state.

FH's sister is also pregnant and since my sister's four children will be at the wedding, there's no way I can say she can't bring her children.

But how do I invite the stepson? Even if I adress the invite 'Smith Family' how do they know he's welcomed since he doesn't live with them? Or should I just do it by word of mouth?

Maybe you can include a little handwritten note with the stepson's name on it saying you'd like him to come to the wedding as well

You don't think that will look like an afterthought? I know they (along with FH's parents) are really trying to make the stepson feel like part of the family, not like 'his father's family' (if that makes sense).

what you can always do also is put his name on the envelope underneath the the other name that it is addressed to. For example:

Mr. & Mrs. John Doe
Mr. Stepson's name
Address

this way it wouldn't seem like an afterthought...what do you think?

I like this idea, so you are including him and it doesn't look like an after thought. It's perfect!
