Ok, this may seem silly but I want to start out on the right foot with my fsil. She used to work at a bridal store and she knows a lot about dresses and designers. Just the thing is..she has different taste than me and keeps suggesting things that are cute and all but soooo not what I want. How do I gently tell her that her 'no thanks' without seeming ungrateful for her?

Just tell her that although the dresses she likes are beautiful, those styles just aren't what you picture yourself in for your wedding.

What about just showing her some pics of dresses you like and then asking, 'I'm so overwhelmed with all the choices! Can you recommend a designer or dress that you know that resembles these dresses?' See if you can let her know that you respect her expertise and that's why you came to her to help you find YOUR dress. HTH

Your best bet is just to be honest... Let her know that it's not exactly your style even though the ones she picks are nice. Let her know the style you are looking for that way she really can be helpful....not stressful...

I agree...compliment her first on her choices, then show her pictures and tell her that is what you have always loved and pictured for your wedding day...then ask her for her advice. In this way you are being honest with her and still getting the advice you want.

Tell her thanks for the suggestions but that style is just not you. Simple! No need to beat around the bush. Whatever you do don't like anyone change your style
