How do I tell?

and makeup themsleves, without
being mean

Thanks alot Karen

It's part of being a bridesmaid.

Send them all a BM ettiquette article from the Knot or something - that way they know EXACTLY what you can expect from them.

I agree- I'm paying for my girls and haven't even told them that yet b/c it's a friend of mine that's doing it but it certainly isn't 'ASSUMED' that you should pay for their hair/makeup so they will probably be assuming that they're paying for their own already!

I agree, it isn't assumed that you are paying for their hair and makeup UNLESS you are insisting that they have it done. In that case, I *personally* would flip the bill.

some of my bridesmaids are getting their makeup and hair done, but its because they want to, not because i want them too. I think that they know if they choose to do it that theyd' pay for it themselves!

Yu don't have to. How would they know you wanted them to do it professionally in the first place. I think most people already know that you are not going to pay for that until you tell them that you are.

Because some brides will tell their BM's they must get their hair and makeup done professionally. That is how they would know.

Did you tell them that they should have their hair and makeup done PROFESSIONALLY?

Re: How do I tell?

I always paid for my own hair and makeup when I was a bridesmaid.

No I never told them I was paying for it, in the beginning I was going to pay to have
their hair/and makup done, but i wanted to buy their jewerly and a nice gift. So I said to my self that is going to cost alot of money. So than girls you have been in bridal party before were telling me that some girls want it and some girls don't so let them pay for it themsleves.
Than i was feeling cheap

Sorry I am a bit confused. So you told them/never told them that you would pay for it and then decided to buy them the jewelry and a gift??

Tell them 'This is what I have decided to do and this is how much it costs'. Give them the option of participating. I will attempt to find a hairdresser and pay for everyone (3 girls + me). I am not going to have a make-up artist and plan to have my sister assist in this process...

ok then there you go. You should not feel bad at all. They should expect that expense.

I sent my BM's an e-mail after my trial saying that I booked JN and that if anyone was interested in having their make-up done it would cost x amount.....

That is a veryyy good way. I second this one. Suggestive but not forceful....
