How do I tell a vendor..........

How do I tell a vendor..........

what I ordered and what she made are not the same? I ordered a dress pin that I LOVED and when I received it I was like 'Oh my, this is truly ugly. And, not what I ordered.' Im afraid I may run into some problems because it was 'custom' made. How do I politely word my email to let her know that I am very disappointed?

Thanx!

did you get a photo ahead of time or a sketch of what you thought you'd be getting? i think you need something that you can compare to, or if you have notes or emails stating specifically that you did not want (for example) a pearl instead of a rhinestone...going to be hard otherwise.

I would take whatever had the photo/description of what you had anticipated getting with what you actually did recieve back to her & explain to her that you think perhaps a mistake had been made upon ordering such & such. When she asks why, you can then explain how you had anticipated getting such & such & when something else came you were disappointed with what you recieved. You are not the first, nor will you be the last, so I'm sure you will not offend her.

I would nicely tell them that this is not what you expected and then explain what needs to be changed.

Would it be possible to tell the vendor in person instead of an email? I think in an email, the vendor (or anyone) may take it the wrong way. Probably better to handle this type of situation face to face.

I'd say also rather then tell them 'hey this isn't what I ordered' it may be smoother to put it in the form more like a question, like, 'I'm not sure this is what I ordered'. Though there's nothing wrong with being direct, I just think that being direct usually just puts people on the defense, where as asking a question gets them involved in the answer.
