How do RH count the number of people at a wedding??

To make a long story short, a few people were invited to the wedding, but are not coming for the whole thing. They are going to the church then 'stopping by' the RH for cocktail hour, then leaving. Like I said, looooong story so the reason why the are doing this is besides the point. Personally, I do not even know why the are going to bother stopping by cocktail hour but whatever.

Anyways, I do not want to be charged for these people for just stopping by cocktail hour. Do you think I can get away with this? Does the RH do a head count during cocktail hour or does it go by the placecards? Or do they count during like dances or something??? If I am going to be charged then I am just going to tell FHs family to tell these people not to even bother coming. What do you think I should do??

Hmmm this is actually a really interesting question! I never thought about this before, but I think maybe the RH counts the people at the actual sit down dinner...I guess by keeping track of the amount of entrees they had to serve? It really doesn't seem like they would be able to tell if extra people came to the cocktail hour..

I believe it is counted during the dinner...the only set a certain amt of plates as per your seating chart that you will submit

yeea thats what i was thinking too, but i want to make sure but I dont want to call and ask bc then theyll realize!!! I know I sound super cheap, but it is one family (5 of them) and they cant go to the whole thing but they are like INSISTING that they want to see the hall and whatnot so they are like 'oh well just come for cocktail hour' Im like I want to be like thanks for the offr, but ill just show you pics, bc if i have to pay another 600 dollars for them to spend less than an hour there im going to be

can you tell them that you will be paying for their dinner for them to just stop by the cocktail hour?

Sit down dinner only counts. But make sure it is only a few extra at the CH otherwise the RH might notice or there might not be enough food (unlikely unless you had say 20 extra folks).

I was just asking this question the other day. I wonder if they count the place cards or wait for the sit down count because I was planning on under counting.

it would make most sense for it to be done by place settings and dinners - not CH hour - i think you can def sneak a few people in there without anyone noticing

I was told by my RH that as many people as i like could come to the cocktail hour and i dont have to pay for them its only when it comes to dinner wheres theres the problem because they only set out the chairs and plates for the number of people you tell them are coming

If they are not staying for dinner, I dont think u need to count them as a guest. I highly doubt the people at the hall stand there and count. But if they ame for dinner, then they would know because they would have to set another place setting.

A couple came to my wedding and ended up leaving after the cocktail hour. my dad said ahd we known they were doing that, we wouldnt ahve counted them for the dinner. it would have saved us a little bit of money- but that little money is like a weeks worth of grocerys! LOL.

I don't think it would be an issue to do that. They only will care about the number of dinners...they'll never know!

well, more than likely about 2-3 days before the wedding your rh will ask for a final count and in turn they will figure out the total cost you owe them based on your final numbers....they plan dinners around that...also they are the ones setting up your tables with the numbers you tell them to
