I guess it depends on the type of engagement party you're having...will it be formal or informal? Either way, I know it doesn't have to be as formal as the wording on the wedding invite..

I searched sample invitations online and took bits and pieces from each one that I liked and did it that way.

for you since you are not having parents who are hosting.. you could do...

something cute to start off.. ive seen some where it said..
