decide which DJs to visit? I feel like it was so much easier narrowing RHs down (coming from the girl who visited 16...) b/c I could look at pictures, decide if the location was right, decide if the decor was what I was looking for, etc.
DJs it's not like that. I e-mailed a TON of them, and so far, those that I've heard back from have all been in my budget, so that doesn't help eliminate.
Also, I know this sounds like a LAME excuse, but we don't have a DVD/VCR (i'm old school hahaha... nono ours broke, and i just don't watch enough tv to buy a new one)-- so requesting videos isn't exactly going to work. Plus, I don't really trust those videos. I feel like you only see the absolute best performance ever.
What other ways are there of narrowing down DJs so that I don't wind up making 45 appointments???

Re: How do you...
You could go to some bridal show ases or go on recommendations from here. If I remember your hall is not on LI so you might have to call and see if they will travel to your venue. I also happened to have a friend worh worked for a DJ company so it was easyier for me. I would also start with your halls vendors because usually you do not have to pay for their meals then .

Re: How do you...
yea i agree- call the DJ's you are interested in and see when they are having showcases, this way you can go see what they are like. ususally they put on some kind of show to introduce themselves- atleast thats what the DJ did at teh last showcase that i went to (which happens to be the DJ i am interested in)

Re: How do you...
I called a bunch for price quotes over the phone...(I'm in FL and planning from OOT like you)...I made appointments with the ones that were in my price range and that I got a good vibe from over the phone. (Also checked out their websites)

Re: How do you...
how we did it was to start with the dj's recommended by our RH. We figured we would start there and then if we didnt like those we could look elsewhere. We ended up loving After Hours so we never needed to go further than the recommended vendors!

Re: How do you...
We went to two: FM Entertainment (because I kept reading about them on here and they seemed very reasonable) and Body Rock (because they came highly reccomended by our BM). After we saw Body Rock we knew they were our DJ...so we saw them perform at a showcase and booked them.
