We're addressing ours to Mrs. ____ (it's been about 9 months for one and 13 or 14 months for the other). Too many deaths lately. We figured they still see themselves as married --and we thought it was a bit too soon for both of these women.

My stepfather's cousin, on the other hand, lost her husband over 8 years ago--she will be addressed as Ms. ____

HTH..

I would say Mrs. Jane Smith.

I would use Mrs. but not her husband's first name, her first name.

It should be:

Mrs. Mary Smith

It doesn't matter how long ago the husband passed away. My MIL passed in 1997, and my MIL was VERY offended when she received a shower invitation to her nephew's fiance's shower saying: 'Ms. Mary Smith'

When I RSVP for the both of us, she wanted me to tell the host that is 'Mrs.'

I always err on the side of caution and use 'Mrs. Mary Smith'

I agree, my grandmother has been a widow for about 25 years and she still goes by Mrs.

I agree with the Mrs. Herfirstname lastname, although it may depend on the person. Some young women may revert back to Ms. after being widowed, where an older woman may not
