How do you and FH ........

Original post by GiannisWifey

save for the wedding??

we have been really good so far but I feel like we can be doing better.....

1/2 my paycheck goes directly into our jt 'wedding' acct and so does his.....

but I still feel like we should be doing more? FH loves to go out to eat, so he refuses to cut down on that.....

any other ideas?

Ahhh... we don't so much because of all our other monthly financial obligations. Use coupons whenever you can - it sounds silly because it's like 'what's 20 cents gonna get me' but after a while it will add up.

Good point... we also try to save our change... we have like $400 in coins right now...

I have money taken from my paycheck and my bank directly deposited into my ING acount

GOOD call on the change thing - we have one of those huge water cooler bottles and we put ALL of our change in it. Only silver change - pennies go in a separate jar. And I have a coin rolling machine (can you believe that one?) - so whenever we need to tap into the change, I park myself on the floor in front of the TV, dump change out, and roll away. I actually enjoy this. It's fun to see how much it adds up! Last time I did it I rolled over $500!

A coin rolling machine???????? youre my hero... rolling coins scuks the big one!

Yes, it does - that's why I HAD to get it! And I don't recall it being expensive.... let me see if i can find it online...

we lived at home so that helped a lot - honestly i thought our life styyle woould have changed but it didnt

now looking back we should definately have enough but we would have had a lot more if we wouldn't have spent so much

if anyone is interested, Discover Online Savings account is now 2% APY. I had all my wedding funds in my ING online savings account but when the itnerest dropped to a pathetic 1.3% I switched to Discover. Not that 2% is that much of a major improvement, but why not get more bang for your buck?

I'm saving for my part of the wedding (RH, DJ, flowers, FH wedding band, shoes, hair/makeup, favors) by taking out anywhere between $500 to $1K out of my paycheck each month. Hopefully I will try to keep my outside spending low but its very tough. I just ordered more bras from Victoria's Secret..

we also have the 2 change jars: pennies and silver. can't wait to see how much is in those suckers haha. i cut coupons and have stopped shopping excessively for myself. it's working so far BUT it'll hit me that i havn't bought anything in a while and go nuts :(.

i did just work out a budget for myself and so far so good.

Well this is the last time I am getting my nails done I always have french tips. It' s'me' and then I did the math and in a year I spend almost $2000 on my nails... so yea, until next summer. They are off... I am so drepressed and doing everything I can to make them last longer.

I wish I could say we eat out less.. but that would be a lie.

We arn't doing Christmas gifts this year with eachother and scaling wayyy back on others.

Is that a variable rate? Much better than my citibank 1.4 ish (changes daily)!

We're actually doing a really good job saving so far. (I think). Before we started saving we calculated how much we have leftover from our check after all bills are paid. We then put 3/4 of that into the wedding savings. (The rest goes into our personal savings).

Now i'm going to do the same but put every single dime from my second job into the wedding acct. I don't even bother cashing my checks till the end of the month so I don't have the opportunity to spend it..

The plan was to go out less to eat but that DEF hasn't happened lol.
We're not doing big gifts for bday or christmas either.

No probs. The free wrappers are a bonus, and it's so easy to slide them right into the tube. Voila!

We gave up eating ot except for birthdays and such and limited present to $25. We save strangely we take $37 a day and put it into savings.

why $37?? just curious...

We figured how much was being spent on lunch, coffee, cigs (FH) and such a day and it came out to $36.49. So we gave up buying those items and have instead put it into savings. It comes out to $13,505 a year

I am not working right now. (just selling some stuff online) so I can´t be much help!! But my grandmother gave me this tip.

She had a $5 jar. Every time she received a $5 bill she would put it in the jar. This adds up quickly. You just have to be careful because while I was trying it, everyone decided to give me only $5 bills when they were giving me change(even if it was a high amount)!! Maybe its best to do it for whatever $5 bill is in your wallet at the end of the day/week.

We don't spend money going out as much as we use to and we try to do the most basic packages, in fact the only thing that we really splurged on was photo & video. Also we opened a joint account with etrade and contribute to that each month.
