How do you clean your e-ring?

I love the way my ring looks when it has just been cleaned by the jewler and my jewler told me it was simple to clean my own ring at home with soap and hot water, but I'm afraid to try it.

I know there are some girls on this board who are very familiar with diamonds and I'm wondering if anyone cleans their ring at home and how they do it.

I bought a jewlery cleaner from CVS. It works wonders.

My fi's mom is a diamond inspector and she told me to never use toothpaste because it leaves a film on the diamond. If you're going to clean it at home the best thing to use is hot water, liquid dish detergent (which is made not leave a film) and a baby's toothbrush (to get in the crevices (sp?). I do it like once a week and it comes out gleaming!

I use a little bitof Dishwasher Soap and VERY hot water...

I use the same brand as Jenny5150, but it's in liquid form with a brush.

Most jewelers have jewelry cleaner that they sell. That is where I got mine!!

I work in the jewelry industry, tools and supplies, and we have ultrasonic cleaners here, so I use that for all my jewelry.

I have that too, but don't you feel like it leaves a funny residue on your hands? I also found it to be very slipper. I saw the pump one on sale at a Walmart down south and figured I would give it a try. I like it so much better b/c it doesn't leave that icky feeling on my hands.

Do you know what I'm talking about? Or am I a nut?

I know what you're talking about, it doesnt really bother me, but now that you mention it, lol
I will go to Walmart this week, and see if I find the pump one. How often do you clean yours?

I don't think I'm as bad as you. Usually once or twice a week.

Hee hee hee, yesterday made me 1 month with my E-ring. I get carried away.

The folks on 47th street that are friends of my father and custom made my wedding band told me that plan old Fantastik is what they use at the store. Basically soak the ring in Fantastik for 10 minutes or so, scrub with a toothbrush, rinse under hot water, then rinse under cold water. Works well for me!

Same as Valenia, except I use Windex.
I soak it in 1/2 windex, 1/2 water (cheaper than the jewelry cleaner and it's the same thing, minus the pink food coloring) then I brush it with mild dishwashing soap and a baby toothbrush
(make sure to clean UNDER the diamond)

Once a week I put it under the steaming contraption on our cappucino machine to blast the dirt off of it (same thing as the steamers at the jewelry store as well, I checked with my jeweler and he thought it was brilliant)

my jeweler said not to use the jewelry cleaner...

he told us a little ammonia and hot water...I poured out the cleaner, but use the container...and the little brush...it comes out GREAT!!

AGAIN I STRESS THIS TO YOU GIRLS- USE JEWELERY CLEANER!!!! THATS WHY IT IS MADE TO CLEAN JEWLERY...FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DONT ALREADY KNOW I COME FROM A FAMILY OF JEWLERS...DO NO USE ANYTHING BUT!!! TOOTHPASTE AND SOAP ESPECIALLY CAN HARM YOUR RING...AND DEFINATLY NOT AMMONIA-ALTHOUGH THERE IS AMMONIA IN THE CLEANER IT IS ALREADY DILLUTED TO THE RIGHT AMOUNT! DONT TAKE CHANCES WITH SOMETHING THAT IS SO SENTIMENTAL AND VALUABLE! SORRY TO PREACH BUT I HATE HEARING STORIES LIKE THAT!
