I read on here from many girls that you are to remove 5 guests from your final count just to be safe. My mom and I TOTALLY know about 5 flakes that say they are coming to our wedding, but most likely won't show up. How do I tell my hall that say only 105 instead of 110 people are coming but then have their name/place cards and a place setting, you know what i mean? How did you guys pull this off?
I promised my mom you girls would have an answer!!!

Re: How do you do this? The count for the RH...
we did this an it worked out really well because we had a few no shows. We just undercounted by 5 and used the families we invited to undercount by. For example, FH's family was a family of 4 so we said there were 2, we did this with 2 families and a single person and then just asked them to add chairs to that table the day of. Oh, we also kept the deductions at the same table just so we didn't have to figure out which tables we took away from

I would have been way too scared to do this. My RH also said in the contract that they would charge an extra fee if there are extra guests the day of. It wasn't worth it to me. We were lucky -- we had no no-shows. A few people cancelled at the last minute, and we were 2 under our minimum, but our RH let us take them off up to 48 hours before, so we were OK. The vendors then counted towards our minimum.

There is no way I would do this because honestly, no one would have thought to correct it on my wedding day and then some people would have been VERY offended when they didn't have seats.
I know it stinks, but sometimes it pays to just be on the 'up and up' and tell them the correct amount. I can't even imagine the added stress and how it would effect my day or whoever I would put in charge of this. I would rather pay for a few extra seats and have peace of mind.

I gave them 5 less and only two didn't show so they were not happy b/c they knew what we were doing b/c they had to get plates and chairs for the three extra that showed. I would (b/c it was so embarrassing) give the right number.

I was going to do this (DH's parents really wanted me to, b/c they were worried a few of their people wouldn't come) but I ended up chickening out and I didn't do it. Turns out, it was more MY people that didn't show, but oh well. I gave them our actual # and yes, we ended up paying extra for those no-shows, but I couldn't figure any other way to pull it off.

I didn't do this because I felt it would be embarrassing to have a guest not have a place card or seat. Ask your Rh or your maitr'd if they can offer your parents and FH's parents or other family members a second helping if some guests don't show.

Re: How do you do this? The count for the RH...
I'm just giving a true count... My RH looks at the seating arrangements and our final count has to match that. Some people don't show and others just show up unexpected, so hopefully it will balance itself out.

I totally agree with you! I couldn't do it b/c I wouldn't be able to keep it straight and don't want to have to worry about it.
