How do you edit pics so that... in Photoshop

How do you edit pics so that a certain area is black and white and the rest is color.

I am sure most of you have seen it...

Like the couple is colored and the background and all the other people is black and white...

Or the entire picture is black and white except the bouquet...

I do have photoshop, I just am not too sure how to do it.

Thanks much

well, you can use this tutorial which shows you how different ways to make color detail on a black and white photo. (so you would do the opposite). it will help you learn how to manipulate color in photoshop.

just make the portion you want to edit grayscale.

Select the area you want to be in black and white using the lasso tool, then go to pull down menu Image, select Adjustment, and then Desaturate. Good Luck!

with CS3 its very easy

go to image adjustments, desaturate, then just go to history brush, this saved the colors and patterns of the pic, and go over the areas you want back to the orginal color, just fill it in with the brush

Is this what you mean?

If this is what you mean, I will ask DH's cousin since he's a photographer and Photoshop is his bestfriend. I think what you do is select the area you want very carefully and do a desaturate.....but i'll ask him...

I did it...If you still need help fm me. This thread is OLD but I figured someone else might have the same question.

Its very easy-just a matter of duplicating the pic and then turning the top layer b&w and then erasing carefulyl where you want to color to show through.

DUH didnt even notice this thread is 2 years old lol, yeah dont think she needs this anymore.

It all depends on the program you are using, with photoshop cs3 i do the opposite. With photoshop you dont have to add a new layer, no duplicating...Just desaturate, pick history brush and just color in the area you want

If anyone wants a pic like this let me know, i can do it for you...heres some pics, ive done and have more on the 2nd page.
