How do you feel about combining your bank accounts?

I feel really weird about this. Even though we live together, we have separate bank accounts right now but of course we'll combine them once we get married.
It's going to be strange going out and buying things, clothes, whatever, and feeling like I'm spending part of FH's money. He's very tight with money, and I don't want to feel guilty if I go out and buy a $100 pair of pants! I know that it's my money too, because we both work, and make close to the same salary, but it's going to be so strange.......

Is this a silly question, how come you can't have independence on a joint accout? Seperate accounts would make it seem like your hiding something no?

We have nothing to hide, but I like having my own little savings to get him surprises that don't show up on the joint account.

Also, he handles the finances so as a courtesy I would let him know that I am taking money out of the account and I would just as soon not have to tell anyone that I need $40.

I think that we'll probably have a large chunk of our checks go into a joint account for bills and saving and then have a small portion go into our individual accounts. I'm actually planning on going back to get my masters full time after the wedding, so it's going to suck to be kind of dependent on him. I've always had my own money and took care of my own expenses, I'm not used to asking for help or for $20 for gas. I guess I'll get used to it, because we'll be a team, not two individuals.

I have my own checking and savings accounts, he has his own checking and we have a joint savings. What will probably happen is we will keep our checking accoutns to pay our credit card bills for personal stuff (my makeup, his surfboards...) but have joint checking for house bills and joint savings for us! we will budget and pay bills together b/c no partner should be out of the loop when it comes to the financial status of the marriage. however, i don't want his money to pay for my makeup and crap. we will streamline it more when we get married, like maybe having monthly cash allowances for selfish spending and gas, etc.

As of right now, we have separate checking accounts and we share a savings account. I don't know if we'll combine as soon as we get married, because unfortunately my credit sucks and his is great. I wouldn't want to mess him up.
