How do you feel about wedding planning?

Original post by LuvMyAlfonse

I was bored for a stretch b/c we booked almost everything right away and now it's time for planning to pick up...

It's fun and exciting again. Everything in moderation, you know? For me - planning has provided an escape from drama at home, drama at work and other non-pleasantries.

How about you? Sick and tired of satin and lace or enjoying it?

****disclaimer****
I, along with most girls on here, have not lost sight of what this is all about. i.e. Marriage. If I enjoyed doing my homework does it mean I lost sight of what getting an education was all about?

i hated it - i am so happy it is over. there was nothing like that feeling when i got in the limo after the ceremony. . . i turned to my new husband and said 'i am never effing planning another effing thing again'

it brought about sadness, crushing anxiety and disappointment.

my wedding day was the best day of my life and my marriage has been surreal. I wish i could get the past two years of my life back.

i am actually the opposite, i now want to help others plan theirs and go so happy that fh's best friend just got engaged and i was telling him about halls and giving him ideas lol.

I was even telling fh that i have the best idea for a childs 1st birthday party and when i started telling him about it, he said 'YOURE CRAZY' were having people over, bbq and cake THATS IT'

i am seriously thinking about getting into event planning, its something i was extremely interested in even before the wedding.

yeah i know what you mean - i think that i actually would enjoy planning something for someone else

but nothing for me, ever again LOL my kids are not having parties - we arent going to tell them when their birthdays are

you are TOO funny. Im already planning fh's 30th b'day party and thats not for another 11 months hahaha

well glad that the newlywed part for you is surreal

thanks

oh yeah i already have three places picked out for my first anniversary so i guess i do enjoy planning stuff just not my own wedding, LOL, guess that sounds messed up!

Re: How do you feel about wedding planning?

Great topic!

I do like it most of the time. I like looking at different things I can do to make the day special and unique. I like looking at jewelry and shoes and all that fun stuff. I DO NOT like talking to FILs about the guest list ( FH is doing that tonight for me ... ) and I DO NOT like thinking about getting an officiant. FH doesn't want to meet anyone because he is very private and he's afraid of being asked a question he doesn't want to answer.

Other than that ... I really have enjoyed it. I am a planner, love to organize things and make lists and all of that, so this is like a planner's dream.

ETA: i am doing my thank yous over the next two weeks - i cannot wiat for the moment when i am done with EVERYTHING TYs are done, and i have my albums and videos. . .and i get to sit there and watch TV and actually watch TV instead of think about what i SHOULD be doing or planning the next thing to do
or lay in bed and just fall asleep without trying to plan out hte next three days!!

Thank You for your candor, I feel a little less crazy!

wow- I am in the monority with this one. I have loved every single aspect of it. We booked everything early and I have had not much to do. I only have a few DIY's to do and its too early for them.

The only thing that I have hated is saving almost everything and watching every penny that I have spent.

Re: How do you feel about wedding planning?

I also did everything right away and have been on hiatus since about October. I'm ready, though, to get the planning done and to just marry Joey. I've enjoyed it, but a 21 month engagement was a bit much. it did, however, fly by!!

On a side note, I'd love to be a wedding planner!

i thought i was going to love it.
but people dont know how to mind their business so i havent liked the planning at all.
it makes me miserable actually.

Re: How do you feel about wedding planning?

the things i stressed about most were whether to have a church wedding and if not what kind of wedding to have. Once I decided not to do a church ceremony (big deal in my family) and my family got used to the idea, it was a huge load off. Then we wanted a destination wedding; that was a hassle so we're going traditional. BUT I refused to get into silly little details, and i'm not much of a girly girl who dreamed about the perfect wedding. we are not going broke over the wedding because our RH is really reasonable and the only vendor i splurged on was the photographer, and except for RHs i refused to look at more than 2-3 vendors. The HM is a lot, but i've saved bonus and tax money and don't care that the euro will beat the crap out of us when we're there - it's our only HM.

so I really haven't stressed. I dont love planning but don't hate it as much as i thought i would because I spaced everything out over 14 months... I don't think i'll miss planning, just the anticipation leading up to the whole wedding and HM. I know i'll be totally depressed when we get back to real life after the HM.

i am also thinking about going away for our 1 year. He said he wanted to see italy with his family so i am going to suggest going for our 1 year. If no then maybe vegas and san francisco since fh really wants to go to san fran and he is always down for vegas lol

i also said maybe vegas if we don't do paris. but we've both been... or i might take him to london b/c he really wants to go. in 2010 our anniversary is on memorial day, so we're definitely going away that year to!

i also suggested vegas for NYE so if we do that then we wont go for our 1 year. I hope italy goes through, but ill also think of other options in the meantime
