T, you just have to get out there and look!

You know what may help you? Go to a store like David's, not necessarily to order, but just to try on a whole bunch of styles. They have every style under the sun there, and you can narrow down what styles suit you the most. Then you can take that knowledge, and start looking through books and picking out photos that will work for you. Then head to another store to try on and order...

I tell you the best thing for me was...because I am not the type to go to hundreds of stores....was looking at bridal magazines....and believe it or not I found a dress that I was interested in, looked up the manufacturer and found locations who sell the dress and then went to the store to try it on....the dress was so much better in person than what I could possible imagine....and thats what I chose...it was a one store one try on for me

To be honest, do not go by pictures in the magazines...because the way a dress looks on one person will look different on you...my wedding dress...I hate the way it looks in the book but I love the way it looks on me....plus the dresses I thought would look good on me...didn't!! Weird but that was the way it is. Best advice just go to the store and try on until you find the one that you love!!

Misty, I went to David's too and tried on totally different dresses just to get a feel of what looked good and what didn't. Great idea

I'd tried David's Bridal which didn't find the 'right' one. Then I'd tried Estelle's Dressy Dress which I'd found the 'prefect' one!

Here's my 2 cents:

1st figure out which type of dress is going to be the most flattering to your figure. That way, you can eliminate of lot wasted time. For me, A line was a definate. Where most women have 1 stomach, I have 3.

Then I looked through tons of bridal porn (that's what I call my wedding mags) . . .I cut out every single dress that I liked . . .even the ones that I didn't think would look like on me...although I loved the dresses. Then I located which stores carried them...and-a-hunting-I-would-go.

I think the best thing to do is to try on stuff that you don't think may work....you may be surprised! Keep hope alive!

You go and try on tons of gowns, even the ones you think are 'ugly' on the hanger. You would be amazed at how a dress looks so differently when on. You keep a very open mind. You might think you like on style, but all of a sudden - BOOM- you fall in love with a gown totally opposite than what you first thought you wanted. You can have some boundries- no bows on my a$$ was a must for me. I would NOT try on anything with a bow on my a$$. But I had fun. I tried on gowns I knew I didn't want, but heck, why not?
It is all trial and error. You just shop till you drop.
