How do you handle sensitive Friends or Family...............
Original post by Sassy
The ones who seem to take everything you say to them as being a direct attempt to hurt them. And no matter what you say this is how they feel... So you have to walk on egg shells around them.
How do you deal with these people???

Well as much as I try to think that it's not mine, ever since I saaw it on her I was immediately CONVINCED that it IS mine! Can't help it! And if it really is mine and she didn't give it back after the oh so emotional letter of how Joe gave it to me as a gift, then good riddance! That's no friend! That's a THIEF! LOL! You guys crack me up!

Can the church say Amen??? They also need to consider the people who they are making sad in the process. I guess its something you can and never will understand unless you are the sensitive person.

you should find out if tiffanys stoped making the ring...cause then you should ask her 'where did you get the ring, cause I'd like to get a replacement, that ring was very sentamental to me '

I get rid of them completely. I don't think you should have to walk on eggshells when your with your friends. A true 'friend' would never think you to be so insensitive that you'd be making indirect remarks that are meant to hurtful in any way. And someone that responds that way is a bit too insecure for my comfort.

shamma... if it were me I think i might as to see her receipt from when she bought it...
also... that gave me a great idea... any jewelry that people are sentamental to.. you should get engraved on the backside with initial or something... that way you would have proof that someone stole it

Re: How do you handle sensitive Friends or Family...............
OMG I can totally relate!! First of all, Liz, it's NOT you! So don't blame yourself.
The same situation happened to me, and I lost my 'best friend' because of it. We have always talked freely and openly about her family, which has a lot of problems and conflicts. A few months before my wedding, we were talking about them again, and I agreed with her that the conflict seemed to be getting worse lately. I mentioned seating arrangements at my wedding, and how I may have to consider that when making up the chart. At first it wasn't a big deal, and then a week later she called me up and BLASTED me, telling me I overstepped my boundaries, I had no right to say anything, etc. I was SHOCKED. She talks about her family with me ALL the time, and I have never shown them anything but kindness and respect in the past 22 years of our friendship. Go figure!
I think she has a lot of issues. She also got heavily involved in drugs four years ago, and I'm not 100% sure she stopped it like she said she did. She was taking cocaine, ectasy and heaven only knows what else. I don't even like to take an aspirin!! So our lives have definitely taken different paths. She also had issues with jealousy with me going all the way back to high school! I always felt like I coudn't *shine* too brightly around her or she would get miffed.
Needless to say she withdrew from the bridal party in a huff and I haven't spoken to her since. I even tried to talk with her about it, offering to get together and discuss things, see if we can work it out. She hung up on me. What can you do with someone like that???
I was sick to my stomach for weeks about it. Kept going over it in my mind looking for what I did that was so wrong and deserved such a hostile and angry reaction. Everyone else tells me I did nothing wrong. But it's hard when you're a good person who always considers the other persons feelings. When someone blasts you like that, you feel like you MUST have been wrong.... It's hard to see that sometimes people just have deep issues and it has nothing to do with you--even if they try to blame you for their reactions.
Even now I still get the occasional thought that maybe I should try to contact her and make things right. But why? So she can do it again in the future when she is jealous because we bought a house? or I'm pregnant? or whatever else may bring me joy while she's miserable with her own choices? So that stops me in my tracks.
I hope you're feeling better Liz!!! You can't be responsible for the way someone chooses to take what you say. You're kind and such a good person. You don't seem like you would intentionally hurt anyone's feelings. You know in your heart that you're a good person, and that's what matters.

Susans said it best. People like this just sound too insecure to be my friends. I can't walk on egg shells for people. It sounds like these people need to be babied. And I really don't have patience for that. Liz your statement had nothing to do with the person that made that comment. Very weird..

How I deal with sesitive people : I kick em in the shins before I tell them ANYTHING. This way they are worrying too much about the pain to get too upset over what I have to say.

Re: How do you handle sensitive Friends or Family...............
When I used to tell my mother that I had an headache or any kind or ache she would say to me come let me poke you in your eye and you will forget all about the headache
I had come to the conclusion that I would no longer deal with my friend on the joking level that we would only deal directly with each other and she thought that it was silly. So I guess we are no longer friends. I say her loss. I think until she is ready to deal with me like an adult and not evaluate everything I say to her, w/o thinking I am setting out to hurt her then the only kind of conversations I can have with her is the kind of hi/hello hope all is well.
