I am new to the board and I really find these threads helpful. I am getting married July 2, 2005 and I still do not have a DJ. Since it is a holiday weekend I was told this needs to be done ASAP. Do any of you have any suggestions? Has anyone heard of TGIF Sounds or More than Music?

I used Music by Michael. I knew he was a good DJ just by speaking with him. My feelings were confirmed at our wedding.

Although my vote goes for Tommy's Tunes, I would suggest you try to attend as many bridal showcases as you can. Its really the only way you are going to see your dj 'in action'

Re: How do you know a good DJ??
There are always bridal shows advertised in the LI bridal magazines. there are the Metro Brial show (usually at Marriott in Uniondale or Huntington Hilton).. and you can contact various DJ's to ask wher're they'll be that you can come and see them. That's how we did it.
We ended up booking Variety, RAY was awesome! and Leslie was awesome to book with and super nice! def. Check them out!

Re: How do you know a good DJ??
We took the approach of how well do we like the person who would be performing the service at our wedding. We did not want anyone who was over the top and rubbing up against the guests. I really loved Michael from Music by Michael because he was actually a nice, down to earth, classy person. And when I tried to picture him rubbing up against my aunt's leg, I just couldn't see it
