How do you know if officiant is registered

Hi everyone!
I just started researching officiants, how do I know the ones I am looking at are registered. My fear is hiring one who ends up not being registred and then we are not truly married. Does anyone know how to go about researching this?

ask them to show you proof that they are registered? the judge i went to had his certificate hanging on his wall.
