How do you know if you're fertile?

How do you know if you're fertile?

Is this a stupid question?
FH has had a child, so I think we're OK by him, but I've never been pregnant, even when there have been 'accidents'

How do you know if you're fertile, is there any bodily signs? I have always been menstrual regular if that helps. Is there a test I should do b4 TTC?

Thanks

Re: How do you know if you're fertile?

Liz-
It's a little scary that we are thinking the EXACT SAME THINGS lately...

You and I are the same age - I have had accidents - and am always wondering if there's a possiblity that I'm infertile. I'm very regular as well - always have been. I know hubby is fine due to other past mistakes with a women before my time...

So I'm very curious as to what responses you will get here...

Marni, glad to see someone's on my page, and you will make me a perfect TTC buddy

Isn't it crazy tho'? He's made mistakes and has evidence, I have No evidence I always use that to help claim my innocence.

Seriously tho, it has made me wonder whether or not I'm fertile. I'd like to find out sooner than later

When are you thinking about TTC?

I had the same thoughts too! DH and I definitely had many, many accidents and although I was glad we were never PG any of those times, a part of me always wondered if something was wrong. I've realized since that it isn't always as easy as that to get PG.
We are expecting a baby now, but it's because we were actively trying during our fertile days. It happened much sooner than we expected so all the years of worrying were for nothing!
My advice - don't worry yourself about it. If you really want to know, though, I think there are places you can go to have all the necessary testing done. Although they probably won't advise you to go through it unless you've been actively trying and unable to get PG for at least a year.

Liz - TTC buddies unite!!!!!!!!!

Well, I would have liked to start yesterday, but Chris wants to wait till next year - we just bought the house, so we're busy with that...I want him to feel ready, so I'm not rushing it.

I guess once we start trying, then we will find out if we're ok...I guess only time will tell...

When are you going to try????

June next year, right after our 1 year anniversary.
I suppose I'll get off the pill by the beginning of March?

Aw Jenn, thank you
I think we feel we're running out of time, esp. w/our DH's wanting to wait.
Everytime I see a baby, I want one even more.

Re: How do you know if you're fertile?

Liz,
There is a test that your doctor can do. A few days after your period there is a blood test that they run to see if there is progesterone in your blood. if there is then you have ovulated and are fertile. If not you may be ovulating, but the eggs are not mature.

The truth is as easy as it is to oops & get pregnant it's JUST as hard not to!! It doesn't mean that you are inferitle! It just means it's the luck of the draw. There is only a certain amount of time that you can concieve. But ladies the big thing is that Stress does NOT help!!! So try to relax. When you are ready to ttc then give yourself a 6 month try period. Then talk to the doctor if nothing happens!

Yes Liz clean out your body from the pill for 2 months before.

Re: How do you know if you're fertile?

I usually worry about this. I am not ready to TTC but I have had many accidents that have been false and think maybe I am an not fertile. Right now hubby and I use no protection nor am I on birth control but we are careful in other ways, sometimes I don't understand how we are not pregnant. It always makes me think.

Aw ladies, so glad to hear others feel like I do, and getting the support of everyone here

We've been so careless sometimes, esp. since the wedding
We'll start being more careful now I guess, and pray and hope for the best when our TTC time comes.

Crisco, I'll ask my GYN about that test also, thanks

Re: How do you know if you're fertile?

Unfortunately you can't really tell until after some time trying b/c you could not ovulate one month and then ovulate another.

I've always had regular cycles. Then I got off the pill (after only being on it for about 1 1/2 years) and my cycles were regular again for about 5 months. Then they went screwy these last few and 8 cycles later we are still trying to get pregnant. So you just never know going into it.

But temping and charting are a big help b/c they can give your doc information before waiting a whole year. It helped in my case b/c my doctor took action after only TTC for 5 months. Still no success but if after one more cycle of Clomid we have no luck we'll be referred to a specialist.

The truth is there is only a 20% chance of getting pregnant each cycle. It's such a small window of opportunity.

Ways you can help are by getting healthy and in shape (if you aren't already) before TTC. Take a multi-vitamin too.

I had to get an ultrasound down when I had a kidney infection and I remember the tech saying 'oh my God, you are one of the most fertile people i've ever seen'!! He said I had soo many eggs---guess it will come in handy after the wedding
