Make the invites clear as to who is invited. Most of our guests with children were nice enough to call and ask if their children could come, but we found out through the grapevine a cousin who just gave birth was going to bring her infant without telling us. We had to put our foot down. Stick to your guns and be clear and consistent with everyone.

if the person rsvp'ed with the child's name. you'll have to call them and let them know.

if you're creating your invites. write ONLY the names of the person invited.

Re: How do you make it known....

I'm hearing through the grapevine that a few single people plan on bringing their pre-teen child. I don't want to be mean but I don't want anyone under 18 at my wedding. Another couple, which I addressed the invitation to 'Mr. & Mrs' responded 3...How can people think this is okay without asking????!!!!

i'm very sorry to inform you that when you're planning a wedding, you discover that people you thought had a brain between their ears.... DON'T.

people are rude, obnoxious (sp?), insensitive, thoughtless, and just plain BRAINDEAD.

you are going to have to make some phone calls.

Re: How do you make it known....

I would put adult reception on the reception card...my mom was kind enough to help me out and tell certain people that children were not allowed at the wedding.

There isn't anyway to skirt around it...

I'll have to put my mom on that!!!!

we added adult reception to the reception card and addressed only mr. and mrs. on the rsvps, w/out including and family.

Based on your wedding date, I'm guessing you are asking about those people that have RSVP'd with their child as a guest.

The only way to address the issue is to take the bull by the horns and get on the phone and tell them your reception is an adult only affair and persons under the age of 18 are not welcome (or invited).

I'm envisioning billboards, full-page ads in Newsday.....maybe a radio and tv campaign....

honestly, unless you have a small, intimate and open-minded family, hardly anyone gets it...and the second you say 'no kids' they all want to bring their kids...had you not addressed it, likely they would've left them at home!

i personally didn't care if people brought their kids....BUT completely sympathize with those who don't want them there....you just have to get mean.

Noy sure how some are telling there guest but I saw an option for the reception card the said ADULT ONLY RECEPTION. I thought it was a pretty great idea.

Adult only reception-that's your best bet. Make sure you address the envelopes right. Not the Smith family. Just put Mr and Mrs Smith.

I would go with 'Adult Reception to follow...' We also told our families by word of mouth from the time that we got engaged. This way, noone was surprised.

Re: How do you make it known....

I had 'Adult Reception' on the invites.......and on the inner envelopes, only put the names of the couple invited....

Re: How do you make it known....

On my invitation, we added, 'Adult Attendance Requested'.

THEN... on the RSVP card, we wrote in the number of people who are being invited. They write in, of those people, how many are attending. So, it looked like this:

M________________________

___ of 2 will attend

___ declind with regrets

I totally agree, this is great advice! We had to do this already with FH's aunt who wanted to bring her 6-yr old son.

'Adult only reception' or write on the inner envelope EXACTLY who is invited.
